Impromptu After Party

Last night’s Fine Arts night was a hit! My Dominican band of brothers showed up exactly 1 hour and 40 minutes late to the party. So the weary music director was cajoled into making them dinner instead!

If you notice a slight glistening, it’s because I was absolutely drenched in sweat. During the programs I would turn my back to the parents so I could literally wipe the sweat from my brow!

We created some interesting sandwich combinations once I convinced the boys to dip Cheeto Puffs into the tomato soup and add them to their sandwiches!

Notice that I’m still wearing my super stylish Garmin with my fancy music director outfit? That’s class.

The best part of all was the communal aspect of cooking it together. I told them we had too many cooks in the kitchen (we ended up with an exploded glass pan as the result of taking brownies out of the oven and putting them on a hot burner) but it was such a family time. Franklin buttered the bread like nobody’s business. Papa made the brownies. Luis burnt the sandwiches and dispensed advice. And Morys got to talk on the phone with Kevin James! We shared bites of the first burnt ugly sandwich as we finished cooking.

I’m going to miss those my Dominican Lost Boys. And I mean “Lost Boys” Peter Pan style, not Sawyer & Jack style! Today I’m back at school, but it’s a super relaxed day for me.

P.S. The Burning House is an interesting read. ESB says this: “you get a wee glimpse, not into the way they actually live, but into the way they imagine they could live.”
