Hey newbies. This is the first in a series of sweet RECAPS from our recent honeymoon/staycation. Enjoy
Try something new!
Kevin James and I decided to give a tandem bike a try last week during our staycation so we headed over to Lanesboro, MN. It was awesome because we slept in, nerded around, and ate junk food without having to worry about being on a schedule.
Don’t I look like the Little Mermaid?
The bike was a little harder than I expected to maneuver. Of course, Kevin James rode in front, but he had a bad habit of neglecting to tell me when we were going to coast. If you’re pedaling in back, and the front guy decides to coast – it really throws you off balance. Even with training, Kevin James probably only ended up with about 30% accuracy in remembering to warn me!
We rode about 30 minutes down the Root River Trail before we stopped at this picnic table. You can see our dedication to serious cycling by our choice of footwear (TOMS for everything) and our Diet Pepsis instead of water. We had an embarrassing moment where we crossed paths with a serious husband/wife tandem bike duo. They were like wearing helmets and drinking water. Their bike was like a road bike. Kevin James and I were awkwardly trying to take off, and I really wanted to wait until they went away but they were kind of lingering.
We had a really great time, but we were not hard core at all. We ended up riding the bike for just barely an hour! Hey! We got hungry! That called for a trip to the Pedal Pushers Cafe.
The cafe had a really fun vibe, and I thought it was pretty cool that all the food was “local.” Unfortunately, local doesn’t necessarily mean healthy!
But maybe it does mean DELICIOUS! I really enjoyed my chili cheeseburger & fries! It hit the spot after that whole ten miles or less of biking!!!
Kevin James and I also took the opportunity to wander the streets and check out the little curiosity shops. That’s when we saw the sign for the barn dance and clogging workshop that we attended later in the week. I also showed Kevin James the campground I used to visit occasionally with my family as a child, but more importantly, the adjacent public library!!! I know. Total nerd, but I always love visiting public libraries around the State to checkout their layout and selections.
Stay tuned for some more installations to (what I’m sure will be quite the) scintillating series. Lol.

Haha…I can’t help but compare your tandem bike communication “issues” to what marriage can be like in real life somedays…communication is essential!!
Don’t you like how I totally made a marriage analogy out of your honeymoon festivities?
