How to Have Fun on a Staycation Part II

You can also click back to read about our good times tandem biking, hanging with fam (yes, on our honeymoon!), barn dancing/clogging in Lanesboro, and attending an outdoor concert.

Also we made it into a (SUPER HIGH QUALITY) video on Post Bulletin (I used to be their paper girl!!!!!!!) about the Lanesboro Barn Dance/Clogging Workshop.

Let your Significant Other teach you something. You guessed it! We went canoeing! I probably hadn’t been in a canoe in at least 10 years! Although I have very fond memories of tipping my camp couneslors into the lake at Storybook Lodge!

I wasn’t really aware of how much work it was going to be to hoist that canoe on top of the car! My prissiness came out in full force especially when the old water dripped out of my end. And, of course, we chose to go at noon on the hottest day of the week!

A stunning self-portrait of my skeptical self while I’m waiiiiiiting on Kevin James.

Here’s the Paddle Thief himself after stealing some paddles for us to use from the Boysens.

Some friendly dudes that were watching helped me wield my end of the canoe as we struggled to get it into the water. Then one guy chastised us for not having life vests. Do I look like I know Minnesota Water Boat Law? Haha.. I’m sure it’s not called water boat.

Once we got into the water, I didn’t feel like overexerting myself.

Good thing I had this guy! Have you ever seen such a smiley paddler?!?! I’m just kidding. I helped! Although Kevin James was not impressed with my paddle hand switcharoo technique. I had a lot more fun than I was expecting (except when I did get a little pouty when I noticed a miniscule callous starting to form on my paddle hand – not cool).

I got much more motivated when I realized that I could count canoeing as exercise and that it’s probably a decent upper body workout!

While we paddled, I peppered Kevin with a million questions about his various canoe trips and how people surive in the Boundary Waters without their iPhones. I’m so curious about what people DO the whole time on these trips. But I’m definitely NOT curious enough to find out for myself. I determined that I MIGHT enjoy a canoe trip, but I’m thinking a canoe/camping combo would DEFINITELY be a STRETCH for me. I was also disappointed to discover that I could definitely run around the lakes faster than we were canoeing.

Just the two of us in the canoe. It was definitely some good quality time! :) I decided that I also want to try kayaking and paddleboarding. These sports meet my qualifications of not being even remotely dangerous and not requiring me to socialize with strangers. I’m sounding like a really sporty, friendly person, right? Haha.

I’m so excited tomorrow is Friday so I can be back to a whole day together with my qt on Saturday!

P.S. Have you ever tried to teach your Significant Other something? How’d it go?
