How to Honeymoon in Wisconsin: Hawks View Cottages

Before the wedding, everyone kept on asking me where we were going on our honeymoon. I would mumble something in response about how I was sick and tired of travelling and it’s somewhere in Wisconsin. I truly didn’t know exactly where. Wisconsin!?!? I know, right? But we found absolutely the perfect place for us to bask in our newlywedded bliss @ Hawks View Cottages which turned out to be in Fountain City, WI.

One of my favorite parts was definitely how close it was! Haha. Make all the jokes you want, but it was nice not to travel far after the exquisitely exhausting day that is your wedding.

It was really difficult getting a photo from our room, but here’s what it was like looking outside from the upstairs. The treetop view was amazing. You definitely just felt like you were in some sort of enchanted treehouse with all the natural light coming in through the skylights.

Here’s what our bedroom looked like. Hot tuuuub! :) It was so cozy and wonderful.

I loved all the homey little details like the classical music cds, dishes, books, magazines, and other random things. Kevin James enjoyed exploring every nook & cranny of the cottage.

They also had a journal for guests to sign. Nosy Me enjoyed paging through it. I was horrified to discover that there have been numerous MOUSE SIGHTINGS in the cottage, and it had been lovingly named by some former occupants.

We didn’t use the downstairs area a whole lot, but it would be a fun party space! I kept thinking how fun it would be to be holed away up there in the winter (if you could get up the STEEP driveway) playing games and drinking white chocolate mochas with friends. We mostly used the kitchen to stockpile junk food so we could eat ourselves into a food coma. Ah… bliss! :)

Speaking of steep, the stairs to the cottages were INTENSE. Even Super-Athletic Me wanted to take a rest break on one of the benches!

Old Man Tree was there to encourage you on your trek up & down the stairs! We loved our honeymoon spot, and I can’t wait to go back to celebrate anniversaries.

You can also click back to read about our good times tandem biking, hanging with fam (yes, on our honeymoon!), barn dancing/clogging in Lanesboro, canoeing, and attending an outdoor concert.

P.S. Sorry, Amaury, no honeymoon video!!!

  3. you know what…I totally agree. :) we honeymooned in Wisconsin too and only drove about 40 minutes to our first honeymoon location after the wedding. We stayed in a cabin in the woods similar to yours. it was WONDERFUL and so relaxing. We also had a guest journal that we read through. There were some very interesting entries. haha.
