Our Nontraditional Wedding Rehearsal 5k Fun Run

Hooray! We got our wedding pictures back! This is the first in a series where the newlywed girl recaps every last detail of her wedding. At least there will be some cute pictures to break up the monotony! :)

I was practically Miss 27 Dresses by the time our big day rolled around so I knew we didn’t need to have the traditional Friday night rehearsal. I had already been a bridesmaid for almost everyone in the wedding party so I was pretty confident in our abilities to traipse down aisles in pretty dresses with bouquets in tow. Instead, we opted to honor our “love hobby” and my family heritage of running!

It was June 23, and it was FRIGID! I was so scared it was going to be cold on our wedding day. After living in the Dominican Republic for three years, I’m really not wild about cold weather. Of course Kevin and I wore matchies. And of course it was Nike.

We decided to let the bunting do a little multi-tasking the day before the wedding and used it to create a chute for the finish line! Looking at this picture made me miss my engagement ring! I don’t wear it any more because it doesn’t go with my wedding band. Maybe I’ll turn it into a right hand ring someday?

A little pre-game. A little smack talk.

I love it when I have my two best guys on the face of the planet in the same place! And you know I love running with them!

I guess I was getting ready to “leave and cleave!”

Ready… Set….

Go!

The extremely cheerful walkers! They were also in charge of holding everything for the runners! :)

Apparently they didn’t think those little legs would make it through a 5k! :)

The slackers! It’s no wonder you are cold!

The bride & the groom in the lead, but hotly contested by the bride’s parents!

Finishing strong!

Victory kiss! I’m ashamed to say I don’t know the stats of our race. It was actually LONGER than a 5k because a 5k ended .20 miles before the picnic shelter and I figured there was no point in WALKING. I think we did about 8-minute miles thanks to Kevin’s lame leg!

My parents! They’re matchies too! So cute representing for my church back in the DR!

The McMillin-Kreisel Nonrehearsal Fun Run was so fun! I loved doing an activity that was both relaxing and great for bonding.

What did you do for your rehearsal/dinner activity? Have you seen any other great ideas? I will admit there were a few bumps on the wedding day since we didn’t practice, but they worked themselves out eventually! Especially under the watchful eye of Miss Joanie Sloan. She earned those shoes! :)

P.S. Okay. I have to confess. Josiah actually won, but let’s face it – he’s not that photogenic! Also I could’ve kept up with him, but I didn’t think it would look good to leave my almost-husband in the dust! :)
