Our Second Honeymoon + First Denver Date: Bam Bu

During our first mini flight (LaCrosse to Minneapolis was about 15 minutes in the air), Kevin and I got to sit together. We were too cute cracking open our twin Men’s Health & Women’s Health magazines.

Unfortunately, our flight schedule was a little TOO efficient and didn’t allow us time to grab lunch in Minneapolis. I had the fake healthy version of Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos. They had a super funky texture, but I downed them without complaints. I also snagged a few of Kevin’s Pepperjack Cheez-its midflight.

I know it’s a little blurry, BUT I CAPTURED IT! I took a picture of the very first guy I saw wearing North Face and toting a backpack! It just so happened that he was on the escalator step in front of me on the way to baggage claim! It also just so happens that I’m not so great at maneuvering luggage on an escalator so this photo was really quite a feat – APPRECIATE IT! I was furtive too. Kevin didn’t even notice!

It wasn’t until 7PM Minnesota time that we actually got to eat lunch/dinner! Everything went well but it took a bit to collect our luggage, track down our rental car, and explore our sweet new digs! I couldn’t resist checking out the gym even though I was STARVING! A little Googling and we tracked down this little gem – Bam Bu. I took one look at the menu and ordered something safe, the sesame chicken. I was ravenous so I needed something I could count on. Ask Ramundo for a story that involves me ordering something with gross seafood stuff in it that i wouldn’t touch and almost crying about it. I made her trade dinners with me. That was about the second time we ever met. She’ll share plenty of embellishments to that story. And don’t EVEN get her started on the first time we met! :)

My favorite part about the Sesame Chicken was that the chicken was totally NOT sketchy. I like Chinese chicken, but I sometimes have to close my eyes after I take a bite so I don’t see the weird colors. This meat was all white, baby! And those giant hunks of onion were pretty good too! It was also very affordable, and the service was quick and friendly.

Tonight was the night we discovered I do not like Pad Thai. I always assumed I would. It has many elements that I generally tend to enjoy, but I hated it. Maybe it was just Bam Bu’s? I hated the sauce. It had a little puke flavor for me. Yuck. Kevin loved it though and was happy he ordered it so don’t listen to me. I want to try some of the curry dishes they have next time. Maybe if I go when I’m not so hungry just in case I don’t like it!

Booth snuggles!

Our date continued at Whole Foods where we picked up a few necessities for the week. Can you believe this was my first time EVER to a Whole Foods? People, I’m from Wabasha and I spent the last three years in a third world country. I still can’t get enough of the variety in American grocery stores, and Kevin is very gracious of my ooing and aahhing over different pasta shapes and brands of Greek yogurt.

And I went totally gaga over the antique hydrangea. I’m obviously going to have a flower garden someday overflowing with pansies, peonies, snowballs, and hydrangea.

It’s a good thing we went shopping on a full stomach or we probably would’ve left with one of these gorgeous mini carrot cakes! (They made think of Tina!)

The cream puffs reminded me of some good times we had back in the St. Elizabeth’s dish room with the leftovers! :)

We actually bought carrots instead. Are you proud?

Kevin’s off to his first day of work tomorrow, and I’ve been downgraded from housewife to apartmentwife. It’s really an upgrade because there’s absolutely no work to do! I can’t even really cook (boo)! Guess I’ll have to work on my tan. Life is rough!

Hope you had a fabulous weekend! Here are a few fun weekend posts in case you missed them:

* Cotton Candy & Sweet Baby Cheeks

* The Last Supper – My Cheeto wrap, Penguin Zesto’s, and double date with Kev-kev’s parents

  4. Awww the first time we met was classic! We were destined to be friend Corrie!

  5. Welcome to the wonderful world of Whole foods – my second home. This is such a cute post!

  6. Tonia: I absolutly LOVE Whole Foods Market and am so upset we don’t have one closer than the cities. I think Denver has had a huge push to rid the city of plastic grocery bags that I learned about on bagitmovie.com. Missing you already and thanks for the b-day wishes. Have you located the nearest library yet? Get on it girl. You have some reading to do!

  7. Have a great day. Enjoy a bit of a rest. How do you like the apartment? Aw, first day of school today.. do you remember yours? I remember Kelly’s the most because he did not want to use a pencil and draw a house. Remember your school bus rides…
