While we were in Estes Park for the Sombrero Trail Run, we stayed in a cozy little cottage @ River Rock Cottages. I wish we would’ve had more time to hang out there and relax. It was so sweet and peaceful. Unfortunately, we didn’t get in till late on Friday night, and we had an early wake-up call for race day!
Hello sunshine!
You could see this sign directly in front of you when lying in the bed. Awwwwa!
I immediately thought – what a small bed. Whoa! Someone is getting totally spoiled with her king-size!
Lovely lounge area.
Kitchenette with one very important thing – coffee!
I’d have to say that stove was the best part of the cottage. If only we’d kept it burning all night!!!
The cottages lose one star for not lighting their signs. The area was very difficult to manuever after dark, and it took some wandering to find the right place.
My only other regret was that check-out time was 11. If our race would’ve started at 8 instead of 9, we’d have been golden to come back & shower. Oh well. I felt really outdoorsy all day. The woman at the gas station where we changed thought we were camping. Ha. Ha. Ha. It was so cold. She also showed me a picture of her puppy on her phone when I casually mentioned Baylee. We saw tons of dogs in Estes Park — including at the race since it was pet friendly!! I really do think I have puppy fever.
Cute little bridge. Reminded me of Anne of Green Gable‘s romantic rendezvous with Gilbert Blythe (whoa… the actor that played Gil is now 44!!!)
Kevin got a little brave for his britches, and sample a salsa that curiously made him hiccup like crazy for the following hour!
My favorite store in the tourist trap area was definitely the Christmas shop!
The electronic Christmas countdown sign reminded me of the Crabb/Glocks!
They even had a Vizsla ornament!! But no Boykin Spaniel. Ha. Ha. We ended up getting two super cute ornaments. You’ll just have to wait 91 days to see them!
Before leaving town, we grabbed some caramel apples to snack on. We wanted to eat in Estes Park, but it was MAD CROWDED!! The place was literally swarming with tourists. I had to get outta there!!! The restaurants were all packed, and didn’t look that great so we decided to stop on our way through Boulder.
Kevin stopped on the way for a little roadside photo op. I ended up skedaddling back into the car because I thought I saw a wildlife face pop out!! Haha. It sounds like I’m joking, but I’m so serious! I made a run for it. It’s not my fault. I had to wear my sunnies because the it was so bright which means I’m sacrificing my vision!
I was starving when we finally got our pizza. We ordered a Chicago-style “skinny” pizza. It had half the cheese and half the sauce. We topped it with red onion, roasted garlic, green peppers, & jalapeƱos! Perfection.
I was a totally pansy with the jalapeƱos! I just wasn’t in the mood for a runny nose! It was a long day!! I totally want to go back next year and run the Sombrero Trail Run. Who wants to come with me!?!?!
