Denver Date Night: Hacienda Colorado

After a grueling* week at the office, Kevin and I decided to go crazy and go out for some Mexican, or as they called it at Hacienda Colorado -  “Mountain Mex.”

It was pretty packed when we got there at around 8:30 on Friday, but as you can see the lobby had really cleared out by the time we finished dinner. We ended up only having to wait about 10 minutes for a table.

One of the worst parts of cold weather (besides well, being cold!) is it totally cramps my style. I think pants are overrated. I managed to get into my LBD last night, but I was not looking forward to taking those slippers off! Thinking about guacamole really helped…

We got seated in the middle of the room at a table. I was not a fan of that setup, especially since it was really loud. But Kevin just cozied up next to me, and we made the best of it.

Shameless, fuzzy PDA! :) xoxo

The Diet Coke glasses were super huge. Love that! Especially with chips & salsa! And tons of ice which Kevin.. and Kristy! totally love! :) I think those are important things to include in restaurant reviews!

I ordered: APPLEWOOD-SMOKED CHICKEN BURRITO Chicken with black beans and rice with Roasted Jalapeño sauce. The food totally snapped me out of my little baby funk about our poor seating. I loved the Jalapeño Sauce, and the smoked chicken flavor was delicious! I got full so quickly, but I’m the second of six children. I put that plate away! :)

They had a nice little fire blazing outside. It made my Minnesota/Iowa roots feel right at home! But trust me, I stayed away. You know I hate smelling like smoke. It’s one of the huge downsides of camping (also: being cold and poor internet service).

Proof that I did make it into heels… if you can even see them in the dark. :) It was a really fun restaurant, and we loved the food. I think we would definitely go back again although I would prefer not to go on a Friday night. You know me, I’d prefer not go ANYWHERE on a Friday night. We’re going to try to reschedule our date nights for Thursdays so we can stay in on Fridays.

Favorite Mexican restaurant/dish? I always did love Las Margaritas!

Throwback:

I always ordered the grilled chicken chimi!

How do you deal with looking cute/girly in super cold weather? I imagine scarves and tights will be involved, but I’m still not thrilled! :)

*This was too random and long for the middle of my cute restaurant post, but the word grueling made me think of playing Oregon Trail. When I Wikipedia’d it, I found the game was originially created by some students teachers from Minnesota. They probably had to create a unit presentation. Why didn’t I think of that?? Also, apparently there’s a 2011 version for Facebook. Anyone seen that??

  3. One of the perks of camping is the campfire smell! At least until you get home. Then EVERYTHING has to immediately be washed. The pic of you and your friends was taken in DBQ? Where at? I’ve probably been there tons.

    • At Las Margarita’s on JFK road. Apparently it’s out of business now. It changed hands a lot! :) I forgot you probably spent plenty of time in good ole DBQ!!!

  4. What a fun night:) I am also trying to figure out the cold weather/still look cute issues before the first mountain snow (yikes!).
