Dancing in the Park

Woohoo! It was about time for another installment in the wedding series. I still had two of my big faves left to blog about and today I really need some cheering up.  I knew that just looking at these pictures will help!

When Kevin and I began planning our wedding (we really planned most everything together!), we knew that we wanted just a fun celebration surrounded by the people who love us and support our marriage. Of course, the getting married part was the most important, but I’m a hostess at heart and wanted to make sure our guests were well-fed and enjoying their evening. There was no way that we were going to have the traditional wedding dance. That’s just not us, but we wanted to have some sort of activity. A bounce house was very seriously considered. We also wanted to have an ice cream truck surprise our guests, but we couldn’t get one to come out to Farmer’s Park for any price! We finally settled on an idea that I (elementary music teacher that I am) had been hinting at all along – a folk dance!

When this dude showed up at the wedding, I looked at Kevin and was like,”Who is THAT guy?” Thinking it was maybe his crazy uncle or something. Haha. Our folk dance caller & band were a total shot in the dark. I emailed someone I found online, and they were unavailable but recommended Tim. We emailed back and forth a few times before committing. I remember thinking on the morning of the wedding,”I wonder if they’re going to show up!” That’s literally all we knew about him since I planned the majority of our wedding from Dominican Republic with less than 2 weeks back in the States to prepare everything!

Because she’s so awesome, my friend Emily eventually jumped in and played with the band! They were just jamming like crazy!

Trust me, I will never forget that Joanie was THE FIRST PERSON Tim (the dance caller) grabbed to get out on the dance floor! It’s like he could pick her out of the crowd as the right person for the job. I LOVED it!!!!

The curly couple! I loved the coordinating orange outfits. Wasn’t that so perfect for my wedding!??! I mean, seriously. It doesn’t get better than that.

We could’ve danced all night!! Look how tiny baby James is in the background!!

Love this picture of my big brother & my sister-in-law! He swept her off her feet!

It was so exciting to see Kevin & Amanda!! They really know how to sashay!

Dancing with my Dominican roommate – best roommate ever!!!!!!!

I think the bride & groom are doing the wrong dance move!

I’m pretty sure this huddle move is what totally ripped the ruffle off the bottom of my dress. TOTALLY WORTH IT!! :)

Most of the dances were “mixers” which was super fun because we got to talk to laugh hysterically with our guests!

Urban legend says that Joanie paid Josiah $10 to dance with her….

The dance was a huge success. We kept saying over and over again how glad we were we decided to do it!  I was a little disappointed about some people sitting on the sidelines and not participating, but I know they had just as much fun watching us and eating all the leftover cake! I loved every minute of it. I can’t believe I don’t have any video of it, so if anyone does please send it to me! What were you people doing with those smartphones in place with terrible cell reception? :)

  1. I love it! I can FEEL the fun in the photos. It really looks like your wedding was a BLAST and you really enjoyed yourselves. Those weddings are the best. When the bride and groom plan together, and truly make it THEIR day. Whenever I get married, I wanna make the day reflective of my Babe and me. :)

  2. I love the photo of the bunting and lights. perfect. =) I wanna dance like that again!

  3. what a stinkin fun night that must have been!! I think out door receptions are the best :)

  4. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!??! How stinking fun! What a brilliant idea! You and Kevin are so cute! Chase and I had a morning wedding (because I turn into a pumpkin at 8PM and knew a night wedding would NOT work for me), this we did not have any dancing. Now I am totally regretting that I did not think of this! Love it! :)

  5. Congrats on the marriage and what a fun looking wedding. You make a gorgeous bride, I LOVE that dress too. I wish we would have had dancing at our wedding. Thanks for visiting my blog, don’t be a stranger. :)
