No Big Last Words

I know you’re all hoping I’ll do a recap of my wonderful 2011 with cute pictures and linkable links, but I’m not sure if I’m feeling it. All that copying & pasting is a little laborious. I think I might take applications for an intern soon. Hannah Banana? I also need a new header since it’s sadly not Christmas any more!

We have 3 big whole days off!! You know my philosophy on long weekends? I’ve been carefully developing it over my past three years while working as a schoolmarm. Do not make any plans for a long weekend! Especially on the last day of a long weekend. If you do, you will spend the whole weekend dreading it and not be able to enjoy your freedom!!!!! Very important life lesson.

Or in our case. I love you, futon. That thing is like a fountain of youth – makes us feel like we are still in college.

I had an epiphany while chained to my desk at the office on Friday that our New Year’s Eve should include lasagna!

Oh yeah.

Kevin was immediately concerned about how I was going to healthify it. Legitimate concern. I tried for a recipe that substitutes strips of zucchini for lasagna noodles, but that just wasn’t flying with Kevin James on a holiday. Our compromise was  a creation made with whole wheat lasagna noodles, ground turkey, low-fat cottage cheese, carrots, celery, red & green peppers, sugar-free tomato & basil sauce, and part-skim mozz. Super delicious.

Contrary to popular opinion, you CAN workout before January 1.

I really wanted to go with the first pictures because it showed off my sparkly red nails, but it was missing the point. The Bodybugg. My new little fitness toy. It’s actually highly annoying toy because the syncing with the iPhone is…… buggy? It’s been a serious headache. I finally have it syncing with my Macbook, but the iPhone….. not so much. I’m sure I’ll be talking about it constantly in the days to come if I get it to work properly.

Wanna know something weird? I posted a comment on their Facebook page asking about the syncing…. and they CALLED me. They are so sneaky! How did they get my number??? Of course, they called me when I was at work. The one time I didn’t have my phone on silent. You know I had it on the highest volume. It’s all or nothing with me! Of course, I don’t actually know HOW to silence my phone since I never really get phone calls. Haha. So I have to answer it and hang up quick. I’m so good at life.

Want to see some running stats? I will love you so much if you pretend like you care. I’ll even give you a cookie. The cookie jar is overflowing right now!

Oh yeah. That would be a cool 1,689 miles I ran in 2011. I’m very strict about it. I only count running. And it only counts if it’s logged by a treadmill or my Garmin. No exceptions. I always wonder how people motivate themselves without logging their runes? It would be impossible for me. If you don’t already, definitely check out DailyMile. It’s like the Facebook for runners. They email your stats every week too. And compliment you on your training. It’s nice.

Another fun fact, that I have not bragged about enough on the blog. You know the Runner’s World Holiday Running Streak? Everyone runs at least a mile a day between, I think, Thanksgiving and New Years. Nope, I didn’t do that. I ate it for breakfast.

I’ve run at least 3.10 miles every single day since August 21. And when I say, 3.10, I really should say 3.25. I always do at least a little bit extra “just in case.” In case of what. I have NO CLUE. What’s really going to happen if I only run 3.09?!?! Don’t worry. You don’t need to chide me about taking rest days. Some days I run soooooooo slow that I barely sweat, plus I’ve done my research. When should I quit? I mean. I want to quit. I didn’t mean to start. And somehow it became a non-negotiable in my life. I don’t even have a particular goal in mind. I don’t even want to calculate how many days it’s been since August 21. I’m getting tired just thinking about it.

Anyways. Decent mileage. Obviously, I’m going to have to shoot for 2000 in 2012. Maybe 2012 in 2012. That obviously has a nicer ring to it. Maybe 2013 just to be on the safe side… that’s my running personality. Anything else I can do halfway, no prob!

I’m exhausted talking about it. Let’s look at some food again.

We slept in until 9:25 this morning. Isn’t that sick? I totally didn’t mean to. I set my alarm for 8. And then turned it off. I thought I pressed snooze. I rarely use my alarm (Kevin gets up about 30 minutes before me every day to primp) so I’m really not qualified to make sure we get up for important occasions. Good thing we had all the time in the world.

When we got back, we were starved so we had a nice protein-packed lunch with turkey, scrambled eggs, and green beans. I’m sad the turkey is all gone. I could eat turkey leftovers forever.

By the way. Completely 100% over my half-cold. The key was cookie baking and not skipping the gym. And you all thought I was mean for forcing Kevin to go to the gym when he was sick. :) It’s like I saw that thing coming, ate a bunch of broccoli, ran a bunch of miles, and kicked it to the curb.

And let’s not forget the birthday of the princesa today!!! Happy B-Day Joanie Sloan! What would I have done without you to call the Mary Kay lady for me? You always make us smile. Especially when you sing Michelle Branch.

Happy New Year!!!!!! It’s so crazy how much difference a year makes. I can’t believe I’m a Mrs.! And we live in Colorado.

Here’s a verse that comes to mind when I think about how everything happened this year:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.

Feel free to read the rest of the chapter. It’s beautiful. Good night

  2. I’ve been dying for a “healthified” lasagna, and now I’m inspired to try it out sometime soon. Congrats on your wedding and big move to Denver!

  3. Just something to think about….did you know that most ground turkey isn’t all that healthy for you. It’s because in most ground turkey they grind up a bunch of the skin and stuff with it (which is where most of the fat is at). It’s actually healthier (and pretty equivalent price wise) to buy extra lean ground beef (93-94?% lean ) and just use less of it in the recipes, than to use ground turkey. I can’t remember what reliable source I read that in, but when I come across it I will send it to you.

    • Wow. I’m super curious about that. I guess it’s probably something I haven’t looked into the way I should. I’d love to read more about it although it’s probably just going to turn me closer to a vegetarian! Meat just kinda grosses me out either way, but I guess the Biggest Loser advertising paid off in selling me the ground turkey. Haha.

  4. I was thinking about getting a bodybugg this year. I’m kinda deterred now that I know the iPhone part isnt working quite right. I know you’ll have a great new year. Keep up those 3.10 miles.

    • I know. The iPhone syncing is a bummer. I’m gonna call them up tomorrow, I think. I’m sure I’ll do an update on the blog!!

  5. WAY TO RUN!!! Holy cow you got after it in 2011! You rocked it- I’m being completely serious, that is impressive! …….Mmmm, lasagna sound pretty darn yummy right now. Thanks for that. :)

    • Thanks! You’re so sweet. Lasagna is so wonderful this time of the year. Especially after a good sweaty workout!

  6. I did my first ever link back to my whole year and I about died. And when that post hit my site, it emailed me every link I had to moderate. SO much work. But it was nice to see everything. I think next time, I’ll put it all linked up and stuff listed on a document or something. Easy to get to instead.

As for your miles .. holy wow! That’s a lot of miles!! (I acted interested; where’s my cookie?!) haha jk. I am very interested in how many miles people do because I can do like less than 1/4th of that. Hopefully that’ll change. That I can run decently.

Wish you a Happy New Year! <3
