Good Things Really Do Come to Those Who Sweat

Or at least that’s what Nike Training Club told me at 9:05 this morning!

I got up a little earlier this morning to start my 2012 right!

The Power Up workout was part of the recent (I think it was recent – I don’t update my apps with any degree of regularity) update to the Nike Traing Club program. It was a killer workout, and even had a few new moves which is always a surprise for a veteran at-home exerciser. I was particularly a fan of the Jumping Woodchop move. I love mixing cardio with weights for a good burn!!!

Before heading to church, we scarfed some French toast topped w/cranberry sauce. I didn’t use any maple syrup (sugary + I’m not a huge fan), and my cranberries were extremely tart. I was making little sour faces the whole time, but I was in too big of a hurry to do anything about it.

Why the rush? Today was our first day teaching Children’s Church!!!! I kept thinking to myself,”Wow, there’s no better way to start the New Year than teaching kids about the Lord.” And we only had one child bleed. Seriously. Small mishap with a fruit skewer. :)

After church, Kevin James dragged me on one of his manly project errands. He needed some boards to do some work around the apartment. I just left him to it while I de-Christmasfied the blog.

Later on, we took advantage of our free afternoon and hit up our gym. Check what it looked like on January 1!!

Not a JJ in sight! We were there around 4PM so perhaps we avoided the rush.

Treadmill: 5.58 miles in 43 minutes (7:42 pace)

Jump rope: 12 minutes

Stairs: 2.04 miles in 15:32

We didn’t play on New Year’s Day!!! Kevin worked hard too and had some fun playing with the TRX bands.

Boyd would like you to know that he has made a resolution not to be so grumpy when we put him to bed. Be looking forward to a lovely growling video.

Wanna hear mine? I’ve been thinking about my 2012 goals for WEEKS!! But really most of them are just continuations of what I’m already doing. I decided to put them in the blog so I can look at them next year at this time.

  • Run a marathon. You know it. 2012 is the year, my friends. If for some reason, I don’t end up in an actual race, I’ll go out and do it on my own. You know I have that kind of staggeringly ridiculous self-discipline.
  • Why not run 2,012 miles while I do it?
  • “Run” up Pike’s Peak with my dad & Kevin. Oh yeah. Have you noticed all the stairs in my training lately? This is assuming Dad makes it to Colorado this year.
  • Try swimming (sometime soon!) and Crossfit (sometime later). I just need the ugly one-piece to start on the former and the guts to try the latter. Okay, and I think Crossfit is generally pretty expensive so I’ll wait till our current gym membership expires.
  • Finish the laborious process of obtaining my Colorado teaching license. So close, but it’s taking forever.
  • Either get my NASM personal training license and/or find a sweet education or fitness related job.
  • Visit my friends and second home in the Dominican Republic. Subgoals of that are to resist tanning and brush up on my EspaƱol so I don’t miserably embarrass myself. Also, visit Kristy, Sean, & James!
  • Not leave my house with sweats on unless I’m going to the gym. With the exception of pink velour when traveling.
  • Work on the blog.I have a little commitment to myself to keep it up for 3 years. No promises after that unless I’m making the millions… or at least getting a few headbands for free!!
  • Own my first piano. Keyboards don’t count.
  • Read the Bible in a year. NT with Kevin James, and OT on our own.

Also, I’d like to stay this cute. And to never stop eating cereal in bed.

If you made resolutions, get cracking!!!!!!!!! I’m always available to send obnoxious “Are you working out?” texts.

  3. MARATHON yayyyaayayay!

You are totally going to rock your first marathon, I know it.

    • Can’t wait!

  4. We are so similar! First of all, I lovvvve the Nike Training app workouts. And, half of my goals for 2012 are the same as yours. I also want to get a personal training certification (I’m doing ACSM), try Crossfit, start swimming, travel, work on my blog…and my Dad and I want to hike Longs Peak together (is that near you?). However, I do not want to NOT wear sweatpants outside the house, haha. That’s just not happening. I live in yoga pants!

    • That is crazy!! I’m totally following you this year!!! I’m not sure where Longs Peak is, but I’m new to the area. I’ll forgive you on the yoga pants. :)

  5. I love your blog’s new look and your resolutions are clutch! 2012 miles in 2012 is beastly!!! Oh, PS only 1 kid bleeding in Kid’s church is a total accomplishment. I don’t know what it is about those little buggers but bleeding is like a necessity to them.

  6. Great list- running up Pike’s Peak?!?! HOLY GOODNESS GILR! That is amazing! I thought it was a complete feat to drive up the thing, let alone run up it! GO GET IT! :)

  7. Our gym was totally dead as well! It was just me, my husband and one of my training clients! I loved it though! I’m guessing today at work it is going to be crazy busy and we’ll be slammed all week!

  8. Great list…lofty goals, good luck. :) 12 minutes of jump rope…yikes you are boss girl.

  9. I like the new look of the blog! It seems easier to see and read everything :) And congrats on all that sweatin! Seriously, you have done so well this year, amazing job lady

  10. Congrats on the award! :) It DOES pay off to sweat!
I would love to read the whole bible too this year! :)

  11. Love your new header! So colorful! :)

I’ve been “hearing” around the blogosphere that the gyms are not crowded at all today. Guess people are starting tomorrow or later in the month.

Please don’t ever stop blogging. I think you should tack on a good ten years after the three. ;)

Also love the last picture. So cute!
