Sporty Saturday & My Marathon Tebow

This was nice to see…

Doesn’t that make you think of a wonderful time of year called SPRING? :) Kevin and I enjoyed sleeping in this morning, and then we both ended up calling home to Minnesota to catch up with family.

It was feeling pretty spring-y outdoors today too.

I reluctantly stuck to my plans and headed to the gym so I could catch the Olympic marathon trials. Both races (men & women) were REALLY good, and virtually battled among 4 people. I was sooo sad for the fourth place finisher in both instances. Both of them were SO painfully close, and they cried there little eyes out!! However, I was really happy my fave Kara Goucher and Ryan Hall made it in.

After I got home I read some articles about Ryan (like Kevin reads about Tim Tebow), and I was fascinated to learn that he’s a believer. He brought up the Lord in his post-race interview, but so did the guy before him and I thought he was just kind of saying like “Thank God…”

It’s not a leap to say that Hall is running’s answer to Denver Broncos evangelical quarterback Tim Tebow, though Hall says it is not his style to publicly display his faith the way Tebow does.

“My faith is a huge part of my running, and I don’t try to hide that,” he says. “At the same time, I don’t throw it in people’s faces. I’m not pushing it on people. But if it’s the honest answer to a question, I’m going to share it.”

If Tebow has powerful, menacing linebackers and defensive ends trying to tear his head off, Hall has featherweight, fleet-footed Kenyans trying to run him into the ground.

Apparently watching the marathoners inspired me. I told myself,”NO FOOLING AROUND.” I have a tendency to pause the treadmill to change the song or take a drink or whatever. Today I was going 10 miles or bust!! I wanted to make sure I could do it for the race next week.

The result? 10 miles in 1hr 17min 42sec – that’s a 7:46 pace. I was going for a sub-8 pace, and I did it! Hooray. I kept it at a 1.0 incline. I was really enjoying watching the marathon trials. I wish there was more running tv. The announcers were saying that the race was like reality tv since a lot of the racers knew each other, were college roommates, trained together, etc.

After my run, I had a hefty smoothie! Bananas + blackberries + coconut milk!! I needed it. We always get behind on our Saturday meals if we sleep in and go to Starbucks, and then I’m always wanting to get a workout in!

I promised Kevin I would make him “football food” to watch the Broncos/Pats game tonight (booooring) so I snapped up this precooked chicken. The sell by date was yesterday so that’s fine. I’m going to keep checking out that spot!! I hate cooking meat so it was a steal!

Delicious supreme nachos!!

Awwwa… our activity schedule tends to be dominated by me & my interests so I like spoiling Kevin today and letting him watch his football. He’s just so adorable with his fresh haircut!

Best football snack? I can’t bring myself to ask you if you actually LIKE watching football. I’m struggling with just the sound in the background. Haha.

Did you catch the marathon trials? Man, I’d love to go spectate! It didn’t seem like there was a very big crowd in Houston. The route was a whole bunch of loops. It was crazy!

  2. Your smoothie looks great- I will have to try that combo! The football food looks great too. Sorry about your Broncos- but my hubby is happy. And my team plays his next week!

  3. Woo look at you speedy!! Excellent job on your run!

  4. I like chips and guac as my favorite football snack!

  5. That is an awesome run! I sometimes watch football, but mostly when it’s a championship game. UF is my team though, so by default, I love Tim Tebow. I really like what Ryan Hall said about his faith.

  6. YUM! those nachos looks excellent!!

  7. I watched football hardcore yesterday! We ate some popcorn and just chilled but I would have totally dug into those nachos! Mmmmmmm! I love seeing that “Manager’s Special” sticker! SCORE! …..Way to run!

  8. Oh man. I LOVE FOOTBALL! I even used to work for a football team :) I’m obsessed, really. Rough game for the Broncos last night, though. Anyway. Have I commented on how fast you are? I wish I could run 10 miles at 7:46 pace. Will you come train me?! haha

    • Thanks! I’d love to! :) Maybe when I get my PT license. Working for a football team sounds like a cool job, however. Except I would reallllly have to study up!

  9. oh and PS I totally recognize the Kroger (or as I say K-rodge) in your photos! that’s where I do my grocery shopping. it’s so reasonably priced and I love their sales.

  10. If it makes you feel any better I only pretended to like football long enough to “hook” Josh. Now, I just find it an annoying inconvenience (sp?). Too bad now Joey is in love with the sport too. We routinely have have just 2 meals a day on the weekend…brunch and something we invented called “lupper” (lunch + supper). It works!

    • Haha. That’s so funny!! And Lupper is a genius idea. Seriously. I’m surprised Josh lets you do that. Kevin is all about 3 square meals. Even if he has been eating ALLLLL day.

  11. What a wonderful run, so proud of you! I really enjoyed watching the olympic trials too, I was glued to the entire two hours, can’t believe how quickly the time flew by.

OK how did I not know that you’re doing a race next weekend? Can you please refresh my mind so that I can start getting super pumped up for you?!?!

    • I’m doing the Frosty’s Frozen 10! The weather looks good. I’m excited! :)

  12. I love football for the time of year and traditions!
With that being said, I also love nachos ;)

  13. My husband is calling this weekend his selfish man weekend. We watched the Saints game at 4 yesterday followed by the Broncos game. Then we got up this morning for him to run his first half marathon! At starbucks now waiting for the finish! I hate football and running so I am working super hard to be supportive. Glad to hear I am not the only one who hates football! Oh and great deal on the chicken- impressive.

  14. That’s a great run!!! 10 treadmill miles are not easy, especially at that pace. good for you for powering through it. I wasn’t planning on it, but I got to watch the last 20 min of the trials – I was crying for them! So exciting:-)

  15. I bet watching Olympic runners while on a treadmill is amazing motivation! Congrats on your run! We’re watching the Broncos game right now and it’s getting pretty ugly!

    • Kevin turned it off. Haha. I don’t think he coud take the pain any longer!

  16. what a nice wifey you are! :) as I type this my husband is sitting next to me watching the very football game you mentioned. like you….I could care less about football really. sometimes I’ll watch it with Ryan but I can’t sit through a whole game. I think I’m going to go organize my pantry now….. :)
