Pizzas & Puzzles

Today’s workout: 3.26 miles of stairs + 2.61 miles. The best part? Kevin noticed that ESPN was airing some coverage from last year’s Cross Fit games. I was so excited because I’ve been trying to talk Kevin into trying it with me sometime (if you have no idea what it is, check out this video. It’s ridiculous). I love that it’s “the sport of being fit.” I’m a huge scaredy cat, and not tough at all, but for some reason I’ve convinced myself I want to try it. I think my first step will be when I can complete some double unders!

This weekend has been super booked for us after being gone last weekend, and I’ve totally been oversocialized. Our last event of the weekend was Marriage + Class, and we were sooo looking forward to coming home afterwards to some peace & quiet. I made some homemade pizza with my favorite toppings green peppers, onions, and pineapple. Mmmmmmm!! Kevin’s side had no piña and a lot of jalapeños.

I know my friends are going to die when they see this, but Kevin had been casually mentioning that he thought it would be fun if we did a puzzle together sometime. So I surprised him with one on Valentine’s Day! We didn’t really do anything big since I was planning to plan (yes, I plan to plan!) it over last weekend and we ended up in unexpectedly in Chicago! But he still got his puzzle!

He hid behind the table because he didn’t want all my readers to see him in pajamas again. Outed.

Yeah. Let’s be real. I’m totally faking it here. I’m never that intent about anything – except maybe Garmin stats. But I did go through all the puzzle pieces to flip them over and check for missing edge pieces! There are 1000 pieces! And I didn’t say,”Am I there yet?” Not even once.

In my defense, I’ve put together 3 pieces. And finding the missing edges really helped Kevin out. Or maybe he just says that because he’s a sweet husband.

By the way, I chose this Flags of the World puzzle. It was between puppies and some sort of a geographical theme. I went with flags because I felt that learning about them might help me in one of my vicious Corrie versus Jeopardy!-on-tv matches! Hopefully someone in the gym will hear my yell the answer to an obscure flag question and be really impressed. These are the things I strive for in my puzzle selection.

Our biggest fear? You know Boyd is going to eat a puzzle piece, right? And that’s it! That’s the end.

He’s just waiting….

No, we didn’t have two kinds of pizza tonight. This is pizza I made on Friday night, and felt the liberty to share now since this post had “pizza” in the title. I love a good pita pizza, don’t you? This variety had bbq sauce, black beans, red onion, pineapple, and mozz.  We each ate two. And a half.

Do you like puzzles? Not really. Why do you think I’m blogging right now? I do LOVE a good crossword puzzle. But I have too many gaping holes in categories like “sports” and “anything in pop culture that took place before 2000.”

Ever tried Cross Fit? Or want to? Not yet. Although I have done quite a few at-home workouts that would be similar (but not as hard!).

How long do you think it will take us to finish this puzzle? I’m thinking I’ll probably invited someone over to dinner before it’s done. And then things are going to get ugly. We’ve been working on it about 1.5 hours now and the border isn’t even finished. Just to give you a hint. ;)

  1. Haha, I love puzzles :) But I’m like super anal and organize all the pieces before I start which drives other people crazy.

Both your pizzas look delicious! I love pita pizzas. They are always the perfect size.

I have no patience for puzzles- but I think that it would be a great activity for me and my husband to do, rather than watching tv together all the time! You might have just inspired me to do one… (although I’d definitely have to watch out for little puppy thieves looking to steal a piece, too!)

  3. I haven’t done a puzzle in years! So fun!
I am dying to try crossfit. Looks like such an awesome workout! :)

  4. love your blog and that pizza looks amazing!

I love puzzles! I wish we did them more. It is so much fun to accomplish something together even if it is a puzzle. My family use to do them during beach vacations instead of watching t.v. Puzzles still remind me of the beach.

  6. Woah, that puzzle is so intense, but awesome :) i loveee to do puzzles… time goes by so fast while doing them, and finishing them is the greatest thing eva haha

  7. That puzzle is intense! And I would so have the same fear of our pup eating one of the puzzle pieces, haha!

  8. Haha wowww. That puzzle looks intense!

I think the only kind I’ve ever done had 4-5 pieces total and I was probably still learning to speak.

  9. I would love to try Cross Fit and I even found a place near me that I pass by sometimes to creep on the people doing their crazy exercises. The only thing that scares me away (other than the intense workouts) is the price of it. It definitely doesn’t fit into my sorry excuse for a budget right now. :( I would love to hear what you think of it! Get Kevin to do it!!

  10. I love puzzles! They’re such a good bonding activity :) Plus you can get competitive ^^

During the hurricane a few months ago we were stuck inside with nothing to do and started a HUGE puzzle. Finished it that day since literally we had nothing to do for 5 hours, but it was a three man effort ;) so fun to finally finish it though- gluck!

  12. My training is right along the lines of crossfit, though it is not technically labeled that but he says it is the most comparable thing to it!
And I love puzzles, it has been foreevr since Ive done one though!
And love that pic of Boyd haha

I haven’t done a puzzle in a long time, but I remember doing them with my family when I was younger. We always had a puzzle laid out on the dining room table, haha. It’s such a good idea though; you can spend some QT with family and friends without just watching TV or something. I may have to go out and get one for my BF and I now!

  14. Haha this is so funny because my husband really loves puzzles and I can’t stand them. I don’t have the patience at all.

    Yum to the pizza!

  15. Boyd is so frickin adorable!

And I havent seen puzzles in a looooong time but apparently they’re making a come back. You’re the second person I’ve “seen” this week with one, the first one being the dude who sits across from me at work and does it on his break. It’s interesting. I kinda want to do one now!!

  16. Heidi Nicole says:

That second pizza looks delicious, but anything with pineapple is delicious in my book!

Puzzles are daunting – I love doing them but I need to be able to walk away after a while or I’ll go crazy. Just tell your dinner guests they need to help finish the puzzle before they can begin eating! ;)
