Zoup! + 7 Minutes of Burpees

I was dragging this morning. We barely made it to church on time. I know we’re adults now, but we haven’t slept in on Saturday now for sooo long!! I feel like it’s starting to catch up with me!

After church we stopped at Zoup! I think it was suggested by a local reader, but I can’t remember for sure? Anyways, I LOVE soup places, but I will say that smell when I walked into the door was crazy overwhelming. I think it’s because they have a lot of soups with seafood in them (gross!). I ended up choosing a Pick 2 kind of deal with a Veggie-terranean Wrap + Chicken Pot Pie Soup. I wanted to get soup in a bread bowl, but I couldn’t commit to just one thing?

Favorite thing about Zoup? They have 12 kinds of soups daily and they let you taste test them. Kind of like at a fro-yo place!

Later, we hit up the gym. Even deader than Friday night! Hooray.

I was planning to watch the red carpet shows for the Oscars, but I got distracted by the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships. And especially by the sweet side story about Sanya Richards-Ross and Aaron Ross. Today was their 2nd anniversary! And her 27th birthday! And she won. Apparently he’s a football player for the team that won the Super Bowl this year. The team Gisele’s husband wasn’t on. :) Anyways, they workout together, and they were too cute!

I did get to see a little red carpet action, but I’ll probably see all the rest of it in recaps on the treadmill tomorrow.

Today’s workout: Nice and easy 7.02 miles. And then… About 30 minutes before the gym was closing (they close at 7PM on weekends – lame!), I decided to do the burpee challenge I was talking about yesterday.

My goal was to complete at least 50 in 7 minutes!

I followed the direcions for the Cross Fit Open Workout and found a target six inches above my max reach. I used the TRX bands because I didn’t have gymnastics rings handy. Haha.

“At the bottom position, the Athlete’s chest and hips must touch the ground.”

Ow.

This is what you call a full range of motion workout! You’d think spandex pants would stay up.

Just keep going. 7 minutes is a very long time when you’re doing burpees!

Only the most realistic photos for you guys! I was dying when I finished, but I did 56! Kevin was timing me and forced me to do the last one. I was going to stop at 55. Haha. I know I can do way better (that’s the runner’s personality talking)!!  I’ve never done that type of burpee before so it really felt awkward.

I want to be able to do 100. I’ll try for 70 next time I feel like torturing myself for 7 minutes straight. Kevin had a “knee problem” out of nowhere which unfortunately prevented him from participating!

Kevin and I were BOTH happy about tonight’s leftovers. I had Mama Pea’s Spicy African Peanut Stew, and he had the Spicy Peanut Thai pizza from last night. For dessert, I whipped up a little homemade fro-yo in my mini ice cream maker. Nonfat Vanilla yogurt + Almond milk + frozen strawberries + blueberries! A little tart, but so delicious!

Time to get ready for a new week! Can you believe this? I have a load in my washing machine of all hot pink clothes!!! I just got that new hot pink Nike shirt that I was wearing in the burpee pics above, and I was afraid to wash it with anything else. So I managed to put together a whole load of hot pink!

Did you watch the Oscars or the Track & Field? Haha. I know nobody was watching that meet. I’ve discovered that Saturdays/Sundays are the days for cool sports like running and figure skating. I love it because it’s when I have the most treadmill time.

Hardest workout of the weekend? Probably those burpees, but I was kinda dying on yesterday’s run too since I had a stomach full of pizza.

What color could you do a whole load of laundry of? Man, that would be a tricky sentence to have to word correctly. Good thing this is just a blog. PINK! And probably orange too.

  1. You ran 7 *easy* miles and then decided to do burpees! That is amazing :)

  2. I think they might only be open during the weekdays, but 3 Sisters in downtown Denver has AWESOME soups. Their sandwiches are meh, but the soup is why everyone goes ;) Oh, and awesome job on the burpees. I’ve been scared to do that style because I would probably bruise my hip lol

  3. tracy says:

Wow, I am seriously impressed. I need to get myself in gear and start working out too.

  4. You are adorable. Killer workout! Burpees suck, I agree. But they yield a killer bod, as you already know.

Have you ever tried lateral burpees? They’re their own beast and kind of my latest obsession. Give em a go!

  5. Wow! 56 burpees is super impressive, especially the way you did them. I hate burpees and can do like 10 before I want to stop and never do another one. I’ll blame it on my knee problem, just like Kevin. ;) You’re nuts! but in a good way. :)

  6. Oh my gracious, 7 minutes of burpees? You’re a beast! Way to go!

Zoup sounds like an interesting place – I like that they let you taste test the soups! That’s pretty cool!

  7. Brittany says:

AWESOME burpees!! That is amazing. I would do those if I had that ice cream fruit combination. I lovee your hot pink Nike shirt..adorable!

  8. Burpees…..ooof! I caught a little bit of the Oscars, but I mainly just watched the red carpet ;)

  9. Heidi Nicole says:

7 minutes of burpees = chop my legs off, please!
Although now I want to at least try a few of those hardcore burpees. Maybe 2 minutes?! ;)

I opted to watch Teen Mom online…apparently I felt as though my brain seriously needed to be rotted!

You should try them. It’s actually my chest that’s sore. I’m not so good with the upper body muscle since I’m mainly a runner. Afterwards, Kevin was like — maybe you should’ve started with 5 minutes.

Duh. I guess I just wanted to try that workout.

  10. I like to refer to burpees as suicides because they feel like you are slowly killing yourself while you do them. Congrats on the 50+!

  11. For some reason, the majority of my clothes are black or gray. Maybe I’m channeling my inner “rocker” from middle school?

  12. Cait's Plate says:

Congrats on hitting your burpee goal! Those things look like absolute torture – I can’t even IMAGINE 7 minutes of them!!

I miss both the Oscars AND Track & Field! So lame, I know. Haha

  13. I love love love pink! I could probably to a whole load of laundry with all the pink clothes I have, or even just add in some whites to make more pink clothes…

WTG on the burpees! I want to try this out. :)

  14. Lisa says:

At this point the only part of the burpee I could possibly do would be the standing position!!!! L.O.L!

  15. I could do a whole load of laundry (and do!) of blue stuff!!
and 7 minutes of burpees sounds horrible!! I envy yoru drive!!
I only had 2 workouts this weekend – training on friday night (which was a semi-easier circuit) and then I ran 2 miles on saturday – the 2 miles was my hard one because I am definitely not a runner so I struggled!

  16. js.nutmegger says:

56?? that is unreal. way to go! i do the fit test for insanity every two weeks so keep practicing and test yourself in another 2 weeks and it will prob have doubled!

  17. Lauren says:

I didn’t watch the Oscars- I watched The Amazing Race! It’s my fave! :)
I used to always see how many burpees I could do in a minute- I think my most ever was somewhere between 22 and 25- but that’s when I was doing them ALL the time. Now I think I’d be lucky to knock out 15 in a minute. :)
Doing them for one minute is hard- I don’t know if I could hang in there for 7! You are hardcore! (And now I also want to break out my ice cream maker…)

  18. I can’t get my spandex pants to stay up during yoga! I am searching for the perfect pair that will stay put for an entire workout. I loved your pics! Great action shots.

  19. Krystie says:

Never hear of Zoup before it sounds awesome. I love burpees so I might have to take that challenge it looks intense!! I also didnt get to watch the Oscars, I think I’ll just watch the red carpet though :D

  20. Holy cow- that is one long 7 minutes! I think I would die after about 2 minutes of them, no joke! You went hardcore—- and I hate when my clothes slide down! Spandex shouldn’t slide off!
You homemade fro-yo sounds AWESOME! Even if it was tart- YUMMMMM! I didn’t watch the Oscars- the husband and I watched a movie instead :)

  21. msfitrunner says:

Awesome job on the burpees!!! 56?!?! That seems insanely hard!!! And I love the smiling picture at the end- no big deal!;-) I think I’m going to have to try those this week. Have a great day!

  22. 7 minutes of burpees = hell on earth!

I slightly watched the red carpet and then got bored. I’d much rather HGTV :)
