Barre Conditioning + Quitters

YES!! They finally scheduled the ballerina workout class at my gym at a time I could go.

I mean, who can seriously go to class at 10AM on a Tuesday? I mean, me when I was unemployed. But right now I’m a hard core 8-5er!

I thought for sure I was going to turn into this after one workout:

I decided to to go for a trial class before bringing my tutu & pointe shoes. Haha. Kidding.

Iwas very courteous in that I brought a change of clothes so I wouldn’t be in my gross stairs/running sweat. I should’ve known to wear black capris. That was the uniform in this class. And I was wearing grey… considerably less flattering! Never mind that I wasn’t in Lululemon! ;)

You can see I wasn’t joking about the black capris. This was a sneaky sneaky pic. See me in that flash of hot pink the in the mirror.

Well, the workout was a little painful. It was one of those workouts that focuses on “teeny tiny movements.” Our instructor was adorable! I loved her so much. She was so energetic but not annoying. Plus she could do the abs exercises without the barre. Impressive! It was one of those classes that’s synced with the music so I liked that. Especially when they played Destiny’s Child.

Update: Today I had a really hard time walking down the stairs at work. Must’ve been that 100+ calf raise type thingies we did!!!

Do you think it’s worth it to go to the class if I can go only once per week? I’m more into big picture workouts (RUNNING!), but the instructor convinced me with all the,”This is changing the shape of your thighs right now!” I will say that the stretching parts felt really good.

DINNER!!!!

We found these little gems at Wal-Mart the other day!! So awesome. I don’t know why Kevin makes fun of me exploring alternative grocery stores when I come up with some awesome things like these!

A little shredded chicken slider with broccoli & sweet potato fries! Mmm!!!! I have tons of ideas for those little sliders!!

A little sad news before I go…

Kevin and I have recommitted ourselves to cutting back on the DC. I feel like I’m missing a friend already. Haha. We’re not going cold turkey. That’s not our style. We’ll still drink it when we go out and a limited amount on the weekends only. And probably if we get for freezies (for example: in a meeting). But we’re going to quit stocking it at home. We’ve already cut back some. Unfortunately, it’s something we both love. And kind of something that symbolizes relaxation for us. But I know it’s my worst habit. Although I do have to say it bothers me when people who spend four hours on the couch watching tv every night lecture me about it. I know Diet Coke has some weird sweeteners, but being sedentary raises shortens your life considerably besides increasing your susceptibility to virtually every disease. So do a few jumping jacks before you point fingers!! I mean that in a loving way. ;)

Anyways. My easiest way of doing it is focusing on the waste of money! This is beside the point of it being unhealthy. We did some fast math in the grocery store parking lot and in a few months we’re going to be millionaires!! Haha. So wish us luck! The good news is we never have cash so that makes it difficult to go after the office pop machines. I

Are you a pop drinker? I love Diet Coke more than cake. I really do. In most situations, I’d choose it over the actually meal. And I hate drinking water with most things — pizza and Mexicanespecially! I guess water goes nicely with vegetables so maybe that will be extra encouraging?

Ever tried a barre or ballet-inspired class? I’ve done a few dvds, but doing it in person was WAY better. That instructor was inspiring!! :)

One of the members at my gym that takes my Bodypump classes is begging me to go do a Barre class with her. The closest center is 45 minutes away- without traffic! She LOVES it. If it comes locally, I’d definitely try it.
I’m not a soda drinker, but go in phases of drinking Virgil’s diet soda, which is sweetened with Stevia.
I’m sure you read the part in Jackie’s book where she talked about the diet soda at the restaurant her brother worked at? Totally gross.

  2. I LOVE me some Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi, its weird I dont have a preference, just love them both!! But I know I should drink them in moderation which is hard for me. But heres what I do, I drink 2 lg. glasses of water for every pop!!

  3. Im jealous of your ballerina classes! Wish we had some like this at my gym…

However, I would probably make a fool of myself …

I wish we had a bar class! I grew up doing ballet and would love to do one of those classes. I did get to try a spinalates class today!

  5. I quit my daily DC habit last year. This is after I had to get an MRI for weird head pains (consistently on one side, not a headache). The pains went away when I stopped DC. Weird, freaky and true. I really don’t miss it very much, and I actually have more energy than when I was drinking it. You guys can do it!

  6. I haven’t tried any of those classes but would love too, they look so fun! Plus I loved ballet when I was yonger so I think it would br right up my alley!

  7. You love DC more than cake?! Whoa. That’s a bold statement. :)

I get my water in by adding lots of lemon or lime to it so it has some taste.

That Barre class sounds awesome. I’ve been wanting to try one for a while… and now I know to wear black pants if I do. LOL!

Diet Coke used to be my WEAKNESS. I would drink them all day. Now, I’m down to a few sodas a week, and some weeks I don’t drink any soda! I prefer beer over mixed drinks, too, so I’m not bothered to drink soda on the weekend!

I’ve been wanting to try the flat outs for a while now… glad to hear you liked them. I’ll have to pick some up. They offer a ballet fitness class at my workplace that I thought about trying out but it seems a little difficult.. after hearing about your good experience maybe I’ll reconsider :-)

  10. I’m jealous!! I want to take a barre class! I always hated ballet, but maybe if I thought of it as a work out, it would be a little less sufferable ;)

  11. I gave up soda for Lent and I’ve been going strong for now. I really wanted to stop drinking it and figured Lent was a good time to make the decision. I agree with you on not liking water with a lot of foods. I try to drink unsweetened tea with meals just so I get some flavor.
I really want to take one of those barre classes one day. Unfortunately the gym doesn’t fit into my budget at the moment so my home gym aka corner of the play room has to do for now.

I know what you mean!! I think I have like one month left on our current membership.. then the weather’s getting nice so it’s gotta go! so i have to take advantage while i can. i’m not crazy about tea so I’m working on some other alternatives. the crystal light pure kind seems okay.

  12. I know Boyd isn’t in this post, but I grew up with a Boykin and while she was unbelievably attached and loyal to my dad I loved that dog! No one ever knows what kind of dog it is, so I’m always excited to see someone that has one!! We have a boxer/lab right now, but when we get our own house with a yard I plan on expanding our fur family!!!

As for this post – I have not tried a barre class, my gym doesn’t offer them BUT I am dying to try hot yoga.. even though I’m not exactly a yoga person…

I have found that drinking flavored sparkling water helps with my diet coke cravings! Because 98% of the time I really just want the carbonation!!! But I work nights so I still indulge more than I should…

    • Corrie Anne says:

Yay!! People always ask me what kind of dog he is!!! I’d love to run into one. I keep hoping I will since we live next to do a very busy dog park!! I want to expand our fur family too. I want to get a Vizsla!! Boyd is not really the running type… :)

  13. I am so trying to cut back on soda as well, I don’t drink it as much as some people but still don’t like that I drink it so much. Work in progress!

I’ve heard the barre classes are challenging and a great workout — definitely on my list to try out!

  14. I had to laugh about the couch sitters lecturing you about diet coke. And good news on becoming millionaires in a few months… that’s awesome! :) But seriously, it’s almost $4 a 12pk these days. Ouch! I drink about 1 soda a month, and only when dining out… or I’ll splurge and get a brown ale…mmmmmm :) At work there’s free sodas, so that makes it harder… though they’ve been buying non-sweet iced tea too, so sometimes I’ll have one of those. Good luck!!

I’ve done Physique 57 workouts on DVD before and could definitely feel the burn. They never held my interest long enough to notice any changes in the shape of my legs though.

I gave up diet coke about a year ago and it was tough. I have a Soda Stream and I use it to make sparkling water which helps me with my pop fix when I need it.

    • Corrie Anne says:

I’ve been seeing those soda streams….. :) I bet I’d love them. I feel the same way about those classes. I get bored a lot more quickly than I do when I’m like running.
