Corrie Corriendo + Dominoes Night

My first run back in the DR.

I woke up around 8 yesterday morning. Can I just say it’s a lot BRIGHTER here? Not to mention that there’s a massive construction site going on next door. I decided to sneak in a little run before Megan got home from work.

I know this sidewalk well. I used to have every crack memorized so I wouldn’t wipe out! Before I got down this block I ran about ten people I knew. Including the supermercado owner who said,”I never thought I was going to see you again in my life!! You have to go see my wife! She’s going to freak out!!” So I had to drop by the store real quick and promised to stop back later for a more lengthy visit.

Trust me, I still know where the dangerous dogs live!! I don’t find them overly ferocious except that they can really scare you when the start barking if you didn’t know they were there!

I ended up doing the bulk of my run in a little park because it was so hot!! ¡ay, qué calor!

When I used to run in the park, it was not at all uncommon to have someone decide it would be cool to jog alongside me. Generally this did not last for more than half a loop or so. Today I found myself a worthy opponent in this baseball player (they practice inside the park). He paced me for two 7:30s. I was intending to take it a little easier than, but I couldn’t resist the temptation. Especially with his whole team watching to see if he could keep up with me. Haha. And of course, when he quit – I finished it off with two victory laps for a total of 4.0 miles.

Megan and I ended up sitting in our old kitchen chatting for two hours before we made it out the door to the salon. It was so good to see all the ladies again!! I caught them up with all the gossip on the Americans in the city.

By the time we left, it was downpouring, so they were kind enough to set us up with this headgear so we wouldn’t ruin our beautiful Dominican blowouts.

We had a classic dominoes night planned at Jake’s, but  number of people didn’t show. I think due to the rain. We’re Dominican. We hate getting wet!! Haha. But Jake made us some soup, and we had the best time just catching up on everything. Megan and Luis are both planning their weddings so, of course, I had to know every little detail about that.

The boys & me (they’re getting old!! haha).

Megan and me. I didn’t realize what a giant I am next to Megan. But at least we are in beautifully coordinated pink & purple.

I had the weirdest thing happen to me as I was leaving. I met Jake’s new roommate who said upon meeting me,”Corrie… as in the previous teacher?” That can’t be good. I always remember hearing about other teachers who came before and just rolling my eyes inwardly. Lol. I’m that teacher now. Hahaha. You win some, you lose some!

Kevin Update: Everyone has been asking me what the bachelor has been doing. I can tell you that he has been to the gym once. Already baked some of the Cookie Friday dough I left him. And last night he had Juicy takeout  -  I guess in lieu of Date Night.

Looks like you’re having a great time. So cool that it’s like no time has passed since you were there last. :)
