Spartacus Workout in the Park

Saturday morning I tried a new-to-me workout, and it was killer. Kevin had done the Spartacus workout pretty regularly two summers ago, but I had never tried it.

Warm-up: Walk to the park with your dumbbells! Kevin had 15′s, and I had 8′s (the ones Kevin rescued from out by the dumpster!)

It got really sunny while we there so we ended up retreating to the shade.

10 exercises, 60 seconds AMRAP of each exercise, 3 rounds for time! GO!

  1. Goblet Squat
  2.  Mountain Climber
  3. Single-Arm Dumbbell Swing
  4. “T” Push-Up
  5. Split Jumps
  6. Dumbbell Row
  7. Dumbbell Side-Lunge & Touch
  8. Push-Up Position Row
  9. Dumbbell Lunge & Rotation
  10. Dumbbell Push-Press

You can download a PDF of the exercises here. Or you can watch a video demonstration here. None of the moves were really new, but the workout felt really long and definitely hammered my upper body!

Men’s Health claims that this workout burns 731 calories in the average male. According to my (SUPER BUGGY AND SUPER ON MY NERVES) bodybugg, I burned about 185. Ouch. I kinda hate the bodybugg because the iPhone app is absolutely horrible, and the online application is really cumbersome. But,I do think it gives you a more realistic idea of how many calories you’re burning. So if you have the patience to put up with it…

We also tested out few outdoor box jump solutions. This one was a little too low, but I liked my hair flying in the picture. Haha.

My other workout for the day was walking while I talked on the phone for 2+ hours. I had somecatching up to do with Emily, one of my best friends from college. I knew it was going to be a long talk since we can rarely get a hold of each other so I suited it up and multi-tasked it, burning over500 calories while we talked. Sweet, right?

I made a very half-hearted attempt to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some tacos! Kevin had a more traditional plate while I went for a salad with the last of our pineapple. I figured it would work since sometimes they put pineapple in salsas, and it ended up being so delicious!!

I have to skedaddle – we have our marriage class in a few minutes here. Hope you’re having a great weekend!!! :)

  2. i just nominated you for the versatile blogger award! check out my blog to receive it :)

  3. That is an intense work out for sure! I love that you guys did it together, though!

  4. Jenny says:

What is your marriage class about?

    • Corrie Anne says:

The first half was all about communication, resolving problems, etc. Even though we’re newlyweds (and not opposites), it has definitely been helpful. The second part is about how to work in Christian ministry together without letting it negatively impact your marriage (from stress, etc).

  5. I love that you and the hubbie work out together!! Such fantastic motivation.

PS you always do the most badass workouts!

  6. This workout looks great!

You totally should. It’s super intense, but you only have to do each move for 60 seconds. You can do anything for a minute, right? that’s what Jill would say. Haha.

  8. That looks intense! But at least you have a really cute top! I’m going to pick one of your WODs to do today.

  9. I am so jealous of your constant work out buddy. You can really do some fun workouts with him and get a great sweat in. Love the fiesta bowl, colorful and beans galore. My kind of mexican.
