23 Paws: Super Extra Boyd Edition

I’m excited to be participating in the 23 Paws Link Up action hosted by Cinnamon @ eat pray tri.

This week is pet introductions. At first, I put “dog” introductions, because – let’s face it – dogs are the best pets! You guys all know our Boykin Spaniel, Boyd.

Kevin rescued Boyd from a shelter three years ago (before I even knew Kevin!!!). Boyd got his name from the workers at the shelter. They told Kevin they had started just calling him “Boy” and it eventually turned into “Boyd” which sounds nice with “Boykin.”

Vintage Boyd -

Here’s Boyd, the first day I met him in 2010. I remember being shocked that such a small dog could drag Kevin James down the street!! Kevin always claims that he’s been lenient with Boyd since he was abused and had a lot of problems before he came to live with us. It was definitely discussed, but Boyd did not make it to our wedding. He probably would have had a nervous breakdown with that many people around anyways.

To say that I am the Wicked Stepmother is an understatement. Boyd and I have a tumultuous relationship at best. Definitely a love-hate. We did come to some sort of truce when Kevin was out of town and Boyd got really sick. I was up with that stupid dog all night, but somehow we bonded over that.

Here’s Boyd’s face on Thursday & Friday afternoons (my half days). He always appears very concerned when he realizes that he’s been left home alone with me!

Why?

Those are the days I usually take him to the dog park on longer walk/jogs. He gets a little tired… That tongue just KILLS me.

We’ve discovered that Saturday is the day all the cool Denver people take their dogs to play in the fountain. (Note: if you’re single, I think this would be a great place to meet someone!! Everyone is VERY chatty about their dogs)

Classic Boyd – pulling on the leash as HARD AS POSSIBLE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. He never. stops. pulling. I honestly thought he might break his collar or the leash today. All the other dogs? Don’t even have to be on leashes! But Boyd just cannot control his enthusiasm!

We’re so proud of his new-found swimming abilities!! Although he really will only do it if other dogs are doing it. What a teenager!!!

Pulling again.

Boyd stole a tennis ball from this Golden. Can you believe the nerve?! We were shocked he did it because he won’t even usually fetch for us (more than once, then he gets tired).

This shot of Boyd cracks me up. Zero social skills. Getting ready to shake it out all over his new pal.

Back at home, Boyd does love when I get on the floor and tussle with him. I just have to be careful if my hair is down because he loves that brown curly ponytail and wants a piece of it!

He would never admit it, but I know deep down he would miss me if I was gone.. for more than a year or two. I’m pretty sure he enjoys the break when I’m at work.

The cool thing about taking pictures of dogs is that you can take tons of pictures in one day and it’s not so noticeable that they’re in the same outfit. Lol.

I’ll leave you with Boyd’s glamour shot. What a poser! :)

Boyd is our only dog right now, but if we get a house this summer we’re hoping to add to the family (VIZSLA!!!!!!!)

Check out the other, probably not as cute, pets @23 Paws Link Up. Sorry, I just have to brag. Cuteness is really all Boyd has going on so we really try to focus on that when he’s being a freak.

I love Boyd!! You did such a good job of describing his “personality”…I was smiling through this whole post! So adorable :)

  3. Maren says:

Boyd is hysterical and always cracks me up. That’s so funny that all the dogs swim in the fountain… most dogs don’t like water. I’m sure he’d miss you. Absence makes the heart grow fonder you know.

I love this!! So many great pics of Boyd! I love that first one of the three of you! And GREAT decision to get another one…getting a second dog was the best decision I have ever made!! Thanks for participating and I can’t wait till the 23rd (even though I know I will see lots of awesome pics of Boyd before then too!) ;-)

  5. Aww…I love this post!!
Boyd is just so adorable!!! :)

  6. Lauren says:

I love this! And I love your dramatic relationship as a “wicked stepmother” to Boyd. :) He is so darn cute- I just couldn’t resist.
That’s so exciting that you’re planning on getting another dog- having two is great!

  7. Boyd is so cute! You’re right; dogs are the best! My husband & I joke that if, when we have kids some day, they ask for a gerbil/lizzard/guinea pig/etc. we’ll be like “Nope, but we can get another dog.”

  8. Haha,Boyd sort of reminds me of my Jazz – SO energized! :D
Super adorable, too,of course. <3 And I'm sure hed miss you – very badly, indeed!

  9. Boyd has got to be one of my favorites out there, such personality in each picture! Seriously, model right there.

  10. Emily says:

What a great post! I feel like the pictures really show Boyd’s personality….I especially love the one where he’s trying to make friends/shake water all over another dog. :)
