Have you ever done it?
The other day when we went to the Denver Chalk Art Festival we decided to park up in the Highlands and ride B Cycles down to Larimer Square to avoid paying the heft $20 parking fees.
It wasn’t so bad!! Granted, my dress was about the perfect length – just to the knee. Not too long so it would get tangled. And not so short that it would be immodest.
You know who else rode bikes in dresses?
Anne Shirley, that’s who! Do you love Gilbert Blythe like I do? As a side note, when I was Googling for that picture, I came across this little gem in Prince Edward Island: A 6-day bike tour through Anne of Green Gables country.
Wouldn’t that be fun?! And form what I can tell there’s no camping involved.
Anyhow, back to my topic. When we got back home, I did some researching.
You can buy one of these handy skirt garters from Etsy for windy days! You could probably DIY that, but it’s selling for $12.
You can also invest in a skirt guard.
That would probably be more helpful for longer skirts/dresses.
I’m afraid there’s no hope for the pencil skirts I typically wear to the office!
Today’s Business:
Not much going on this Tuesday, I’m afraid.
I learned not to use kale in lasagna.
It was as gross as it looks. When I used spinach, it worked really well! It was one of my favorite lasagnas ever. But I fed half of the insides of this one to Boyd. It tasted way too vegetable-y. It’s one of the perks of having a dog, people!!
Further proof that I’m annoying:
At our apartment gym today, Kevin covered his treadmill screen so I couldn’t read his MPH and tell him to go faster. Or race him! I can barely see it from my treadmill anyways without my glasses. Lol. But I must have been a little too obvious today!
Bike Questions:
Have you ever biked in a dress/skirt?Just the once that I can remember.
Do you have a bike? If so, what kind? Or what kind do you think would be good for me? I need tips. I’m always looking at Craigslist cruisers, but I’m jut not sure how to choose! Of course, “cuteness” is very important, but other than that?
Have you seen Anne of Green Gables? I really want to get it from the library now!
Fun related post from Cup of Jo: Did you hear this crazy story: In late May, a NYC cop allegedly pulled over a Dutch tourist, pictured below, and reprimanded her for riding a bike while wearing a skirt. He said she was distracting cars! At first, she thought he was kidding, but quickly realized he wasn’t when he asked for her ID. How insane is that?! So, as a lighthearted protest, a bunch of girls (and a few guys) came together for a skirt bike ride yesterday evening

Hi! I just wandered over from Daily Mile…
I ride my bike in a dress roughly five days a week since that’s how I commute. A fuller skirt works best, but the right pencil skirt works, too. I think in general if you could sit on a barstool in it, you can ride your bike in it.
Aw I love the dress- and the date- we need to do more of that! The skirt guard was…errrr… interesting!
That skirt guard is awesome. I watched Anne OGG when I was younger, but I can hardly remember it now. Just that I loved it!
I love bike riding! But usually just go to the park for a workout, instead of biking to a place or event. This looks fun!
i ride in skirts/dresses all the time! you just gotta go for it =]
and parking— one of the million reasons bikes are the best!
It’s exercise AND a moneysaver. Love that.
Bikes are the best! Also faster for my commute since I can ride right to my office building instead of having to walk from a parking garage a block or two away. And a quick bike ride in the winter will wake you up better than coffee.
That is hilarious that he covered his screen. A little competition is always good for a relationship, right?! And yes I bike to work in a skirt quite frequently and am confident that most people in DC have seen my undies. Oh well.
I had no idea there were products that could make biking in a skirt easier!
I’ve biked in a skirt plenty of times….our college campus was a bike haven, and I occasionally wore skirts. I really wanted a cruiser bike, but ended up buying a commuter bike. It had the light frame that I wanted, and had more than 3 gears (crucial with all these hills in CO). I highly recommend commuter bikes, and mine’s still pretty cute.
Good call!! I’ve been curious about the difference between cruisers & commuters!
I don’t really ride bikes. one word… cars! SCARY. And I would never ever do it in a dress so I’m kind of thinking your my bike riding hero right now.
I’m not gonna lie. I take it to the sidewalks when things get dicey. Lol.
Your dress is ADORABLE. But, I have never ridden a bike wearing a dress. I think that I could in one of my beloved PrAna dresses though! I am NOT a fan of the running skirts at all. I’m sorry if I’m offending anyone- I just think they look so stupid and I don’t see the point!
One of my other fave CO bloggers was at the chalk fest too and posted pics. It looked awesome!
Thank you!! I have mixed feelings on the running skirts. I have one, but I really never wear it. I like the lulu ruffle ones, but they’re not super flattering on me. Riding a bike in a casual dress is not bad though, but mostly because I just like to wear dresses and am not a huge fan of shorts.
That skirt guard is hysterical. Love it. I have never ridden in a skirt, but maybe I should try? We are big bike people…We currently have SEVEN in our garage. Its a little ridiculous. I actually just got a new one so I can ride some trails this summer with the family. Fun stuff! I would consider a hybrid if I were you…but it really just depends on where you are going to ride it and what type of riding you want….fast/comfy….road/trials etc…
Those suggestions are hilarious, I have never ridden a bike in a dress. I guess I never even thought about it!
I love that Kevin covered his treadmill stats! I do that too
but usually just so I don’t start counting every .10 miles I’ve run… not because you’re standing next to me telling me to go faster. That is hilarious! And I could see you doing it, in the most loving way of course
I love your dress bike riding, you make it look effortless and cute.
Oh, you know your mom has bike plenty of times in dress or skirt, lol. I was just talking to my bike repair man, he was working on creating a skirt guard for his girl. I guess it’s real the in thing in Europe according to him. I guess you can even crochet one.
I keep thinking about buying some kale but I just don’t think I will like it. Charlie has been keeping all of us at the gym supplied in fresh garden lettuce, onions, and radishes.
Go mom!!!! Kale is a little tricky, you know. It’s kind of a strong flavor, and you don’t want the super ribbed kind. can you find it in any sort of bag mix?
love your dress! and smart idea with the garter and bike cover. wish I thought of that stuff so i could be rich. haha
I’ve biked in a runner skirt before…and the stretch material kept getting stuck on the saddle when I tried to get off, not good!
With the right length of skirt I think casually biking around in a skirt is easy enough and perfectly acceptable! By the way, cute dress!
