Denver Date Night: Illegal Pete’s + Lil Kate

We decided we didn’t need to try to be cool this week. We’re moving to the cool part of the city next month so we might as well enjoy the quiet lazy aspects of the DTC for now!

Not that Illegal Pete’s is quiet and lazy. But we can easily saunter on over there from our apartment, especially in this finally summer weather!

This is actually our second time there!! The last visit went undocumented because, well, I apparently had more exciting things going on!

It’s also kinda handy that it’s next to a fro-yo place. And a nail salon. I peeked in that salon. It looked posh!

I had a nice little salad bowl with grilled chicken, black beans, guac, and that green salsa is awesome!!! It’s green salsa with cilantro in it! Way better than I expected! I don’t know if we’re ever going back to Qdoba because it’s cheaper too!! Basically for the same price we can also get chips & guac along with our meals.

The perfect chip.

I like it salty… in fact I even sent Kevin in search of the salt!

Kevin stealing the salt.

Any restaurant where I can have a big shaker of salt at my table to go with my chips & guac is a winner in my book. I love salt on my avocado… I blame this on Yoalba! I always miss the fresh DR avocados that we could just sit there, salt, and eat. Yum!

Hehe.. isn’t this funny? They had it by their pop fountain. By the way, Illegal Pete’s beat out ModMarket tonight when I told Kevin MM probably didn’t have Diet Coke. Lol.

Earlier…

This is what we woke up to! Crazy, right?

Hail piles!!!! Apparently there was a crazy storm last night. We kinda missed it. We heard the noise, but it was pretty dark by the time it started in our neighborhood.

Today was a double salad day. For lunch we had salad with tomatoes, fresh mozz, black beans, and cilantro.

Today’s WOD: was from a new source — GPP Fitness which I learned about from his guest blog on Meals & Moves. He trains the Utah Jazz dancers… so there’s no denying the effectiveness of his workouts, right?

Lil Kate

2 rounds for time:

400m run
25 squats
400m run
25 situps
400m run
25 high sumos 45/65
400m run
25 pushups
400m run
25 burpees

Somehow I missed that there was 2 rounds, and only did 1! I only realized that it was supposed to be 2 round when I was giving Kevin a little show & tell. Anyhow, it took me 18:45 to complete 1 round. Now I feel like I owe one, so maybe I’ll do it tomorrow!!!

Check out these snaking push-ups:

What do you think? I’ve never seen anyone doing those before. But I can do them!! And I can’t do normal pushups. So I was excited. Although 25 was definitely tough!!

Anyways, it was a great workout and I’m excited to try more from the GPP Fitness website in the future.

Do you love salt? I really, really do. I’d choose salt over sugar any day. But avocado is one of my most important things to salt. I guess potatoes are a close second! In my parents’ defense, they brought us up to believe that garlic was the other thing in the shaker. We always had garlic & pepper on our mashed potatoes. I still love garlic though!!!

What did you think of the snaking pushups? Have you ever done any like that? It had been a really long time since I had done a traditional situp too since trainers these days are always hating on them. But it felt good!

Do you like (non-destructive) storms? I usually don’t notice them too much. Last night was no exception – haha.

Are you still streaking? Going strong.

Oh my gosh, that’s the biggest salt shaker I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I love it!! :)

  2. Oh my gosh – that push up makes my lower back hurt just watching it!

  3. Patty says:

Whoa that is crazy hail!! Hope nothing was damaged! I’m coming up with such a to-see list of resturants if I ever visit Denver! Illegal Pete’s looks scrumptious!

that workout looks awesome. I’m going to have to try it and get out of my funk! I would eat anywhere that has illegal in the name.

Ummm that chip looks amazing! I love salty chips!!

You slept thru the storm?! It was so freaking loud in our apartment {on the top/3rd floor} that even without a spazzing cat I would have been awake. Made for a long night…

And I need to get my mile run in today + some lifting/strength. I think I’ll give that WOD a try, but I’ll be running in and out of the apt gym to complete my “1 mile a day *outside*” goal…or maybe I’ll just flop around in the lawn! Should probably count the weird looks I get!

  7. I have a love hate with salt, I used to absolutely put it on everything. It was actually kind of gross, now I don’t add it to anything but I love extra salty chips. That is probably the only overly salty thing I like, I usually buy salt free stuff.

  8. I have never done snaking pushups! they look like theyd hurt my back haha and im not really a big salt fan. well i take that back, i dont ADD salt to anything but i like some salty sncks like chips and stuff :)

Love double salad days! Your two salads look delish. Congrats on the house by the way. I took a look at the post, but forgot to comment. How exciting! Maybe you won’t have to move for a while.

  10. That salad looks AMAZING. I LOVE salt lately. I cannot get enough–I think it is all the running in hot weather. It makes me crave salty snacks.

I am going to have to try those kind of pushups! They look like a perfect arm workout (which I totally need since I avoid strength training like the plague).

I totally love storms. I miss Midwestern thunderstorms!

  11. Oh gracious, that salad bowl looks amazing!

Gosh, when I lived in the campo in the DR, my host family did some farming and had avocado trees. Best breakfast of my life = avocado, diced & salted. Yum!

    • Corrie Anne says:

I seriously think we need to go back and visit!!! The campo is so hard core! I don’t know if I could’ve hacked it out there!! Lol. I honestly only even visited a few times in 3 years!

  13. Sean Breslin says:

How crazy was that hail storm? I work for The Weather Channel, and even WE couldn’t believe how much of it was still on the ground the next morning!
