Bday 2: Make Music Denver + Civic Center Eats

Following the best breakfast ever, Kevin got to open another envelope. I was nervous about the directions on this one, so I told him flat-out where we were going. The 16th Street Pedestrian Mall!! I would’ve been okay getting us there, but Kevin definitely knew a better way to cut through on a trail.

What he didn’t know was that they were having a festival that day, on his birthday no less.

Make Music Denver! There were different groups of musicians set up all along the street. Some organized. Some not so organized!

The first thing we came across was this very energetic drum circle!! I was tempted to hop in, but I didn’t want to get stuck there. I have a short attention span. They looked like they were having a blast though!

When I saw this dude play piano, I was so jealous!! He was playing some Scott Joplin!! Pretty impressive. But we kept walking and…

We found a free one!!!! I sat down an played a little Schubert! We didn’t stay long because there was a rock-type band playing nearby very loudly. I could barely hear myself – let alone show off!!! Haha. Not that I would do that. But I could duel the man with the yellow piano!

And yes. That dress has ice cream cones on it! Actually technically it’s a pinafore! And since I know you’re going to catch me on this one. Yes, I bought a new dress. For KEVIN’S birthday. In my defense, I was looking for an “anniversary” dress and figured as long as I was shipping something overseas (it’s from Asos) … Haha.

We didn’t stay too long at the mall because we to be somewhere else before 2PM. I run a tight ship!

Civic Center Eats! Another one of those things we never get to do since we work in the stuffy Denver Tech Center. Lol.

Every Tuesday & Thursday from 11-2, a huge group (25+) of food trucks come out and park in the park for lunch. They had everything from Indian, Greek, food on a stick, BBQ, cupcakes, vegan, tacos, and more!!!

Since Kevin was the birthday boy, I let him choose one truck. My sweetheart chose the longest, sunniest line. But I’ll admit it was worth it for some O G Burgers!

Kevin had the Ricky Bobby, and I predictably chose the Mexican (GUACAMOLE!!!!!!!!).

We set up camp on the shadiest patch we could find to enjoy our lunch. At this point we were starting to get hott!!

We were taking off our glasses, watches, anything to stop the sweat!!!! We still had biking to do to get back to our first station. I guess it was only low eighties, but man, that sun was intense and it didn’t quit!

Kevin and I are practically becoming the ambassadors for the Denver B Cycles!! We were asked several times throughout the day how they worked. We actually just paid for 24-hour access yesterday so we wouldn’t have to stress about checking in every 30 minutes! The schedule was complicated enough as it was!!!

Check out our (approximate) bike map!

7.82 miles!!! I had to find a way to trick Kevin into exercising on his birthday!!! Lol. We also walked several miles around the 16th Street Mall and Civic Center areas! I love it. I’m actually really proud of how I mapped and scheduled our day. And I knew we’d be tired by this time and ready to go home and relax. Even I wanted a/c after a day like that!!!

Up Next: Cake & Presents.

Happy Friday!! I don’t think I’m making cookies today! Can you believe it? We have so much cake, and I’m just not in the mood after all the prepping and executing of the bday festitivies!! I’ll probably end up making something special for anniversary on Sunday too so I think we’re good.

Ever had any good food truck food? That was my first experience — unless you count Dominican street food. :)

Awesome about the food trucks- I’ll be there in a couple of weeks, and might need to plan to be in Denver for lunch on the Thursday!

  2. Cute dress! Just went to the site and there goes my paycheck. Thank you!

I love that dress! And I’ve never been to a legit food truck dealio, unless you count state fairs in WI…? It sounds fun…and intimidating with so many choices!

  4. I’ve never had truck food, but I imagine that it would be pretty delicious!
    Your dress is so cute!

I have eaten greek food from a truck before, but generally they only have meat items, so it’s a no go for this pescaterian. I love those outdoor pianos. Fort Collins has them and last week while in Salt Lake, they had them too and I got to play (and show off a bit). It makes me long for a piano in my home so badly. I’m sure you know the feeling.

  6. How fun!!
You know, I have never eaten from a food truck! That sounds like a blast. :)

  7. What an awesome date! I wanna go!

I loveloveloveeee the yellow/green piano. I want it. Steal it for me? ;]
