One Cool Friend & Anniversary Traditions

So in case you haven’t noticed I’m big into celebrations. And traditions!!

We came up with some ideas to use in lieu of the traditional anniversary gifts (paper, wood, blah, blah, blah). So we’re not overly traditional, but we like traditions. Haha.

The first is to buy a book every year. Originally the idea was to buy some type of a coffee table book, but I fell head over heels in love with One Cool Friend.

This book is imaginative and humorous, and the illustrations have these funny little details that you are delighted to discover upon your second, third, and fourth readings.

I had to snap a photo of Kevin’s face when he got to the last page with the HILARIOUS surprise ending. He doesn’t crack up in publicquite like I do, but I still got a good smile.

By the way,

The bookstore behind Kevin James is the Tattered Cover, a cool Denver bookstore that used to be a theater.

We also stopped in Capitol Hill Books which smelled like OLD BOOKS! They have a really great selection of cookbooks, FYI!! And a cute little children’s section.

True, right?

Our second tradition/gift idea is that we choose something new to try together every year. I’m thinking this year it’s going to be SUP (stand up paddleboarding. I have this strange obsession with wanting to try it!! I’ll probably hate it and be horrible at it, but I feel the need to try it. But we reserve the right to change our minds on that idea! :)

End of anniversary super lovey talk time.

Two important things from today:

This bowl of cherries from a co-worker was amazing. Although I’m pretty sure my office chair is now stained with cherry juice. I was actually very busy working this afternoon and I didn’t have a napkin handy!

Second, tonight we biked over to our posh Greenwood Village park and ran a few laps. There were some weird sirens/alarms going off. Was that for the weather? We didn’t know. We decided to just do another lap and go home. The weather was really windy with weird patches of sprinkles. I was hoping it was going to really rain!

Tomorrow is BIKE TO WORK DAY in Denver. Or it could be wherever you work too. Will you bike to work!?

Do you have a favorite bookstore? The Shop Around the Corner.

P.S. I don’t want to say, but I want to say something about the fires in Colorado. I honestly don’t track the news very well online and we don’t have tv at home so I didn’t exactly realize how bad it was. Praying for all those impacted and hoping it gets under control soon!

Happy Anniversary!!! What a fun tradition :) Congrats Corrie!

  2. Cute highlighter pink outfit in the dark :)
(And your dress in the earlier picture is super cute)
We used to have a great Borders in Madison but now bookstore choices are slim. When I was younger a big deal for me was to go to a used bookstore called the “Pick a Back”.

totally love your bright pink running gear. very gym barbie AKA my favorite look. i love old bookstores! or just bookstores in general, even barnes & noble. I could spend hours there exploring but then my to-read list on goodreads would be too long. WAIT it already is with over 1,000 books. i’m obsessed with your dress and the little bow on it in that picture of you and your man. where’s it from?

Head to toe pink. Love it! Green is more my color but I love your pink!

And the fires…terrifying. I don’t watch the news but I read updates every night online. Its really freaking scary! We need rain so darn bad!

Cute traditions! I love that fiancĂ© likes to hang in book stores like I do, makes me feel less nerdy! I have friends & family in CO and from what I hear it’s bad. Lots of prayers! We had that last yer here in TX and it was terrible.

  10. I love traditions! You guys are adorable!

  11. I love bookstores like this!! So neat! I don’t know of too many we have in Vegas like that.

—as for the fires. I can’t believe how this tragedy just won’t come to an end. I’m praying for rain and a whole lot of it.

  16. Those are cuter traditions to me than the standard presents list. =P I’d much rather make my own traditions any day of the week. What cute ideas!

  17. it is so cherry season, I can’t wait till I go home on vacation and get to share them with my family. we are big fruit eaters.

  18. Love those traditions! I love spending time in bookstores. I wish we had some fun, quirky ones like that though!

  19. bookstores are so fun to go into, but i never do because i never have time and there are so few left! dc does have a collection of old smelly bookstores though- i should drop in again. what’s your favorite book? happy anniversary!
