Just Jot It July Challenge

I love month themes. It makes the chores I hope to accomplish seem a bit more festive!

So say hello to:

Do you know what that means?

(source)

Yeah. I said it!!! A whole month. No breaks.

I sometimes do this for a few days at a time when I’ve really fallen off the bandwagon, but what’s up? I’m committing to a whole month! I don’t have any giant weight loss goals. Vanity aside, I’d like to drop a few to help me be able to do pullups and increase my running efficiency. I’m not saying I don’t have vanity. I totally do. I’m closing on 1,000 miles run this year, not to mention the WODs, and I’m still at the very tippy-top end of a healthy BMI (I know BMI is… well, what it is). Do you know dropping 1olbs (if you have it to lose) can almost automatically help you drop 8:44 off your marathon time? 1:02 off your 5K? (source) I could clinch some of these goals and get some pretty significant PRs if I could tighten up my nutrition. Exercise is no prob. That is a habit. I love it. I can’t live without it. Nutritition is trickier, right? I eat pretty clean – just too much.

So here I go! :) It’ll be fun, right? I haven’t figured out my precise calorie/nutrient goals as of yet, but will continue to follow Jackie Warner-ish model of eating. Basically cutting down on sugar, eating healthy proteins, vegetables, and fruits. Things I know how to do. I’ll update you on some specifics once I get it narrowed down exactly. And I got a new pink pitcher for water. So I can drink the entire thing daily.

I’ll be using My Net Diary.

Look at that veggielicious lunch. Haha. I had to coach myself to get all those greens down. Out loud. :) But Kevin liked it.

Here’s the visual:

I didn’t quite make it through the whole plate. Boyd Boykins got half a carrot. And there was some salad leftover. Anyways. I like the My Net Diary app because they have everything!!!! on there. And if they don’t, you can take a picture of it and THEIR PEOPLE will input the data for you. Take that, awful BodyBugg app!!! ;)

I didn’t eat all these:

But there are some cute little apricots I got at Whole Foods today. I wanted a picture ofsomething pretty in this blog. :)

Any July goals? Want to jot it with me?!! All 31 days!!! I had to choose a month with 31 days?!?! Lol. Including when my family is going to be in town for like a week. One caveat, I guess. When I bake something, I have to taste it. That’s one taste. But that’s what the judges on Top Chef: Just Desserts taught me back when I went to a gym with cable tv. Lol. And Kevin’s not a trustworthy source.

Ever track calories? I get that it’s not for everyone at every time, but I think there comes a point when you may need to do it. I understand that you can find success through eating clean without counting, but I’m a slacker and a snacker! ;)

I had a lady challenge me on this point once. She said she “guaranteed” she NEVER cheats and that it was her specific body type that prevented her from losing weight.

I said, “That’s just stupid.  I bet you are cheating.

I bet you’ve heard someone with that excuse. Or been tempted to make it yourself if it’s a struggle for you.

Good luck!! I also have an app (the Livestrong one) to help count calories and like to do it periodically to make sure I’m in check.

  2. Good luck with the calorie counting! I’m awful at it. I tried, and my efforts lasted for about two days.

  3. I can’t do calorie counting anymore. /: I got to into counting every little thing that went into my mouth and it got scary for me. :( good luck to you though! :)

I completely agree with you! I used to be HUGELY against calorie-counting, but reluctantly decided to try it out about a month ago. Four weeks in, I’m completely loving it. I really feel like I’m in control over my diet and my body is happier than ever :)

I think that counting calories gets a bad rap because it sounds like you’re on a DIET (four-letter word!). But it’s really not the same thing at all. It’s all about moderation and calorie-counting is a great way to do that. I don’t think I’ll do it forever, but it’s awesome to know how great it can be when you need it.
