I Quit My Day Job

I did it!

I quit my day job to become a full-time blogger.

Just kidding. Well, I did quit my day job, but clearly not for that reason. I just have zero desire to spend 12+ hours a day commuting and being at a stuffy old office after we close on our new house across town. You better believe I’m thankful for the freedom to be able to do this. Let’s file it under the Perks of Marrying an Older Man. ;)  My MIL is going to love that one. Okay, or maybe just of Getting Married “Older.”

(That’s a new Gap skirt. It rumples unattractively.)

After all, the reason I got that job anyways (in my mind, and Kevin let me think it) was to spoil our nieces & nephews with Christmas gifts. We have many. We are the cool aunt and uncle. And Christmas was over 6 months ago! No really, I’m thankful for the job because after Christmas I oddly kept working and couldn’t manage to get laid off!! Our company has laid off a ton of people this year, but apparently I’m indispensable. Haha.

But as I was saying, I randomly hung in there and was able to save some money that I donated to Kevin for our house. Seriously, I had to sign a paper today stating that I was donating the money to him. Crazy, right? It’s because only his name is on the mortgage due to his stellar higher credit rating. Must be my Confessions of a Shopaholic background. Kidding. I was just living the dream overseas with no trail while Kevin was has been a homeowner for years. So that part at least makes sense.

I had the first of my apricots today. Tried to convinced Kevin that it would be like a giant Reese’s Pieces piece. He didn’t buy it.

Are you curious what I’m going to do after my last day (Friday!!!)?

Here’s a brief list:

  • First, my fam is going to be in town! Camp Kreisel is in session!
  • Acquire a piano (I’m corresponding for a freebie with someone on Craigslist!)
  • Try to recruit piano students
  • Practice piano — I’m rusty!!
  • Make a plyo box - hopefully my mom will help me with do that. It’s not like I can use a saw.
  • Harass Boyd more
  • Adopt my own dog who I will treat much better than Boyd. That’s what he gets for treating me as the evil stepmother.
  • Apply for teaching jobs – obviously. This is my first pic, but I haven’t been having much success! I’m hoping for something last-minute. Maybe substitute teach.
  • Make dinner before 9PM
  • Perhaps learn to iron
  • Read a lot more
  • Return books to the library before I get fines on them
  • See if I can spot Design Mom’s family – they’re like a celebrity family visiting Denver right now!
  • Find a duet partner in Denver (or convince Deidre to move here). Any of you Denver bloggers play piano? Or any other instruments for that matter?
  • Put my workout dvds in the correct cases
  • Write – anything and everything
  • Throw a grad party for Kevin when he finishes his MBA in August
  • Throw a b-day party for Boyd – he’s a July baby!
  • Email my former co-workers cute pictures of Boyd, things I eat, etc. They don’t know about my blog. Lol. Yet.
  • Possibly study to earn a Personal Trainer license (if the teaching thing isn’t looking good)
  • Wash my socks. I reuse the same pair at the gym numerous times.
  • Memorize some jokes
  • Find a new gym
  • Learn to paint the nails on my right hand
  • Shop at H&M and Forever 21 during non-peak hours!

Moving along.

Today’s WOD:

150 Block 150 (via GPP)

  • 75 situps
  • 75 superman back extensions
  • 1 mile run
  • 75 situps
  • 75 superman back extensions
Those situps were harder than I thought! It took me 22:47. I think I need to take a break from reading other peoples’ times on GPP until I speed up. Wow. Some people did this in the 13′s!!!!
Some other people showed up in our apartment gym tonight. THE NERVE!!! They were hogging one of the treadmills. Plus Kevin’s lazy back-ups (elliptical and bike) were taken. In case you were wondering how this fitness relationship works, I always get the treadmill. Kevin is more than happy to relinquish rights for one of the easier machines should one treadmill be occupied. Haha.
So tonight we went for a walk/jog/stair run around the hood. Kevin made the mistake of pointing out this awesome staircase across from the park.
Kevin was pretty proud when he beat me up them once. Haha. I actually have a hard time going down the stairs without glasses. Zero depth perception. Still need contacts!
When’s the last time you quit a job? Today. They let me give a 1-week notice. So nice of them. Otherwise I’d have to go back after a week off, and that just wouldn’t be pleasant. I actually didn’t sleep well last night because I was stressing about quitting. I love my co-workers. Haha.
Oh! I forgot to show you.
I made them cinnamon rolls to lessen the blow of me leaving. Lol. Just kidding. It was one of my co-worker’s birthdays. Why do I think I’m so funny today? Guess what. They tried to force feed me one. That kind of sugar at 8AM? No thank you. I threw it in the trash under my desk. Lol.
Do you have a great cinnamon roll recipe? I’ve made that one for my co-workers before and they like it. I don’t think they’re poofy enough. And they’re kind of dry to me. It’s the Our Best Bites Overnight Cinnamon Rolls recipe. Their site has been down? It’s been very upsetting to me. I had to Google the recipe and find it on someone’s blog.
What would you do if you had the opportunity to stay at home for a bit? Lol. Did I miss anything? That’s not a real list, by the way. I’m not quite that capricious.

    Kevin! Hilarious…and I totally agree. :)
I hope you can find lots of piano students! Maybe someday you’ll have as many as me… ;) lol. You’ll probably surpass me in a year! You’ve got a much bigger “pond” to “fish” in, if ya know what I mean. Can’t wait to see pics of your house as you decorate it – and of Camp Kreisel!! :)

  8. lgsmash says:

congratulations! if you need some teaching connections, i know a few teachers!

I also only have 1 pair of running socks (who knows where the other THREE pairs went) and reuse them many times before I wash ‘em. Cotton socks just don’t cut it!

  9. Woo hoo! Congrats to you!! Quitting a job is seriously the most exhilarating experience, enjoy every last moment of your “freedom”. Shopping during non-peak hours is the ultimate perk of working non-traditional hours for me.
P.S. I bought a very similar skirt at Gap a couple years ago. It also was ridiculously wrinkly & I ended up donating it to Goodwill after a few wears.

  10. Congrats on quitting! I like my job… but I’d still love to quit an run away to an Italian winery. :)

  11. also…you’re so cute. I’m so excited for you guys as you get your new house! I’ll be praying some kind of teaching opportunity will pop up for you!

  12. I love when Kevin comments on your blog! :)

  13. Congrats!!! I also quit my job yesterday :) I like your list!! And I like that workout — I could do that one!

  14. and also:

i nominated you for a “beautiful blogger” award. basically, i like your blog. so i picked you and 6 other bloggers. you’re supposed to write 7 things about yourself, put the beautiful blogger image on your post, and nominate 7 other bloggers.

  15. I’m jealous, but good for you! I love your to-do list, especially the jokes :)

  16. congrats, that is such a big step. I am so on board with the power of knowing when it is time to step away. you have a lot of great plans ahead.

  17. I quit my job in December 2010 after working almost every day of my adult life. It was intended to speed up our move to New Mexico. Sadly we’re still in New Jersey, but inching closer to the Land of Enchantment. Hopefully in 2013. It was a strange feeling I agree. Have a great day, Corrie Anne and Good Luck!

  18. i quit my job this week, too! what a coincidence. i was also super nervous but am super excited now. :)

  19. CONGRATS on giving up your job- that’s kinda exciting :) ! Love your list of things to do! Love the bit about shopping at non-peak hours- not having to queue up for changing rooms sounds like utter bliss! I would also go for a matinee showing of a film because something about seeing a film in the middle of the day (as opposed to sitting at a desk) seems rather indulgent :)

  20. haha aw he comments on your blog. it’s cute! but yes, I agree with him, seriously funny post! not that your other ones weren’t. I was hoping you were quitting to be a full time blogger. you got my hopes up. haha gotta find an older man. I’ll keep that in mind. let’s hope that plyo box you make is sturdy enough! don’t get hurt. :)

  21. Kevin James says:

Funny blog tonight! I still can’t believe you reuse socks. That’s so gross.

  22. eatpraytri says:
