We did it!! We’re all moved in and practically unpacked too. I have to say that we are a dynamite team. Lol.
We started the day off right… Iced Americano & Spinach Feta Wrap.
Kevin decided 9AM was early enough to start on a Saturday, especially when we were pretty tired from packing everything up. We were extremely thorough in our packing because we wanted to make moving day as smooth as possible. We’d had some offers to help, but our plans were so up in the air until the last minute that it ended up being just the 2 of us.
Okay, and Boyd…
Boyd J Kreisel was very skittish about being in the back of the moving truck. No, we didn’t try to drive with him back there!! We were just playing!!
In fact, he wasn’t crazy about the U-Haul at all!
He burrowed into the seat as far as possible. I guess Kevin driving a truck made him verrrry nervous.
We got everything loaded into the truck by lunch time, and breaked for some Subway. I know you guys think I was just bossing Kevin around, but I was working the whole time!! I had to help carry the furniture, but the worst part was the mattress. That thing is unwieldy!!!
Of course, the kitchen was the first thing to be unpacked! I was exhausted already, but it was still fun to walk across that bubble wrap floor! We were totally done unloading the truck by about 5PM! Not too shabby, especially considering it’s about a 30-45 minute drive from our old apartment to our new house!!
By the time we swung by the Highlands Asian Grill, we were starving! And they did not disappoint. So happy to have this spot in our new neighborhood. The Basil Chicken was incredible! Afterwards, we stayed up unpacking until midnight!! Long day!
I knew it was going to be, but moving is the best workout ever. I am so sore today! I think it was mainly from standing almost the entire day, as well as many trips up and down the basement stairs. We were seriously wondered how people move who don’t workout!! But, I guess we were really super powering through. Totally painful, but totally worth it.
Ahh… first breakfast in our new house!
We enjoyed it hanging out on the porch swing, but then it was back to work. We wanted to have things in good shape because we had company coming! Yeah, I know it was a little crazy, but my family was showing up today!!! They were originally supposed to come at the end of June, but I wanted them to wait till they could stay at our house. I didn’t want them to have to help us move because this is like their vacation. No way!!
THIS is how you should start a vacation!! I couldn’t resist making cookies in our new house to make it smell like home, and I have to find some excuse to bring out the beverage dispensers we used at our wedding!!
Random question: I feel like our house really smells like cats. I kinda really don’t like cats, and that’s not an attractive smell. Any ideas? We’ve been airing, candling, and baking. I THINK it might be a bit better. I need to go out for a while and come back in to be sure. The previous owners luckily were definitely really neat freaks so I’m hoping it’s just from the leftover cat fur.
What are you looking forward to this week? Not working!! Time with my family. The best part is that we were supposed to be moving TOMORROW so Kevin is off!! Hooray!!!!! So glad that’s over with!! Haha.
What’s the first room you’d unpack in a house? Kitchen, for sure!!! My clothes are usually last. They’re not unpacked yet. The first thing Kevin actually did was make sure our internet was transferred to our new house. Best husband ever!! He knows there can be no gaps in my access. Lol.

LOVE it! haha oh boyd.
I hate missin stuff! So excited u guys are all moved. our moving starts this weekend into next weekend… not too bad though it is only 2 buildings down from our current apartment (we are just upgrading to a 2 bedroom in the same complex!) but still, moving…ew!
i have been playing catchup in blog land and had to catch up on a weeks worth of your posts!
Oh dear, you could try shampooing the carpets? I feel like that might be the only way…
Congrats on your new place!!! Hope Boyd enjoys it!!

You can get a huge container of baking soda and sprinkle over EVERY BIT of carpet with a sifter. Leave it for an hour or so and then vacuum thoroughly. That helped when we moved into our house – we live in Army housing so our carpet was G.R.O.S.S. Your lemonade and cookie set up was adorbs!
cats: i’d say steam cleaning (yourself or professionally) or i think you can do something crazy like sprinkle baking soda and then vacuum it up?
moving if you’re not in shape: those people hire movers.
Here! #12! http://www.thenewhomemaker.com/bakingsoda
Thanks!! That’s a good one for sure! I have that! Lol.
Wow-you guys are fast packers and movers! Congrats on being in the new house. When I was selling my rental, there was a bad odor from the last tenants. The real estate agent had me get an air purifier because it got rid of the odor without masking it like a candle or glade plug in thing would.
Yay! Congratulations!
love how they made your rice into a mountain. also, cute cookie platter! congrats on the move!!
I just love your dog, I seriously want to meet that bugger! congrats on the move, so excited. I would put a lot of air fresheners out for a while.
You really got going on the whole moving thing — way to work you two!
I bet it feels awesome to have that done!
About the smell- fresh air is the best thing I can think of for the moment but I will let you know if I think of anything really smart.
Sounds like the move went pretty smooth, which is great!
I bet the cat smell is not as bad as you think! haha I know for me, when something really bothers me it seems 100x worse than it is! After a few days your probably won’t be able to notice it at all!
Congrats on a swift move!
Marshalls/TJ Maxx/BBB carries odor obsorbing containers. They have a gel in them that picks up the odors…I use one in the laundry room where the dogs spend a lot of time and it seems to work.
That is so exciting! Congratulations on the move! Nice work getting it done so quickly! Not quite sure about the cat smell but that would make me crazy! There must be some random trick that works though. Have a fabulous week with your family!!!
Congrats on the move!! Being welcomed to freshly baked cookies might be the best ever! I would unpack my kitchen first too- girl’s gotta eat
!
Love it! Congrats!! I want one of those cookies! haha..do you have carpet? If so, you might want to get them professionally steam cleaned…that might help with cat smell?
