Kevin James went back to work today.
It’s my goal to stay on the same schedule with him – even with him getting up earlier to commute. So we were up at 6:30 today!
However, Kevin ate his Cap’n Crunch in bed because I hadn’t quite dragged myself out of it yet! When he headed to work, Boyd and I went and hung on the front porch and spent some time reading the Bible. Well, Boyd spent some time eyeing the birds in the front yard tree. We have some rowdy feathered friends!!
I did a quick 2ish mile jog around my new hood, and by that time my family was stirring. This was my best attempt at a fried egg with hot sauce. Kevin makes it so much better *sigh.* I had a hard time with the coffee as well. Coffee & eggs are Kevin’s kitchen department!! I can take care of everything else!
Today’s Camp Kreisel activity was Q-Tip rainbow painting of their memory verse! I saw a great tutorial on Make & Takes, but the girls kind of went rogue!
Let’s just say they were both docked for not being word perfect!!!
Well, today we found out what our smoke detectors sound like.
They actually start screaming at you “fire! fire!” I guess I overheated the oven when I was making the sweet potato wedges. I also found out that Boyd really goes bananas over that alarm. He never seemed to bat an eyelash at the apartment’s detectors. Not that I set them off very often…
Loved this yogurt ranch dressing alongside my wedges! I like to keep it savory on my sweet potatoes. I’ve been scarred for life by canned Thanksgiving yams with brown sugar and whatever other gross stuff.
After lunch, we decided a Target/Starbucks run was a necessity!
We got some snacks, food for Kevin’s work lunches – no more lunches at home
– and some valuable materials for tomorrow’s Camp Kreisel activity.
My Frappe sisters.
AJ makes sure she gets EVERY LAST LICK of whipped cream.
Then we decided we needed to refill the cookie jar. Well, we won’t be winning any awards for our iPhonetography, but these cookies are amazing. They look like no bakes, right? They have fairly similar ingredients minus the peanut butter. I tried out the recipe for Triple Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies from Baking Serendipity, only ours were double chocolate since we only used chocolate chips and not cocoa nibs. I predict the cookie jar will be empty again by Thursday @ 10AM!
My family went to spend the evening with some friends so Kevin and me were left all alone. It seems quiet with 5 less people! We decided to try out these brats. I really am not big into brats. They kind of gross me out. But these were from Whole Foods and the package seemed reassuring. I loved that they were spicy and not too fat!
The house got pretty hot from somebody having the oven on almost the entire day so we ended up on the porch again for dinner. We need some outdoor/patio chairs because eating on a swing gets a little tricky!! We’re working on training Boyd to hang out with us on the porch and not go chasing after everyone who walks past. He’s doing pretty well, but other dogs are still REALLY exciting.
Have a good night!!!
Do you have a cookie jar? Ours is cupcake-shaped. I can’t find a picture of the whole thing (although I’m sure it’s in the background of a million kitchen photos), but here’s the base. I love that it’s like a puzzle to put back together so nobody can just sneak one!!
What about patio/outdoor furniture? I can’t quite bring myself to buy those plastic adirondack chairs.
When’s the last time you set off your smoke detector? Be honest. Lol.
By the way… thanks for the tips — I think the cat smell is already a LOT better. I don’t notice it when I come in even after being gone. I think it helped just to have the house completely opened up for a few days.

Qtip painting is so creative! I think that’s an awesome little camp you’ve got going on!
I absolutely do not have a cookie jar, it would be the death of me.
Yogurt dressing sounds like the best thing ever! YUM!
I a
If you can hold out; places like Home Depot & Target usually put their nice looking patio furniture on super sale at the end of the summer. Bed Bath & Beyond sometimes has good stuff too.
Though I can’t remember the last time I set off the smoke detector, Fielder HATES it.
I’m so jealous that you have a porch swing…
You can come visit and use it any old time you want!!!
cuuuutest pup ever!
LOL I TOTALLY have those plastic chairs in a nice pale yellow color! The wooden Adirondack chairs are just too dang expensive. We also have a little patio set that we put out back at our apartment, but it doesn’t really have a place in our new home. It’s currently sitting in our garage.
I love hot sauce and sweet potato fries together. You should try mixing them since you like both =P
ah!! starbucks! that’s so cute you’re hosting “camp” for the kids. happy new house!
love sweet potatoes in any way!!! I will have to look for that ranch.
I’ve never seen q-tip painting but it looks like a fun idea! Next time I’m babysitting I know what we’ll be doing
You’d be surprised at the nice patio furniture from Sears. We really love our set and we bought it in the fall when we moved in and it was on super sale. We also bought two relatively cheap lounge chairs from target that do the trick. Isn’t it so great to have family in town? I’m having withdrawals since mine left!
They have some really cute wooden adirondak chairs at Lands’ End (probably LL Bean too!) Missing you this summer.
I had no idea to check those places!! Nice!! We are missing you guys too!
It’s a good thing that you are trying to stay on the same schedule as Kevin- it is soooooo easy to get in the habit of sleeping later and not starting the day off on the right foot…… The project for Camp K is super cute! Enjoy family time!
PS- I make sure to get every last lick of whipped cream too!
pretty pics!! all the food looks delicious and I LOVE your dog =) thanks for sharing!!
Haha we don’t even own a smoke detector but something tells me it would be making noise quite often
! I completely agree about plastic patio furniture- they’re hardly classy! I’ve seen some nice straw chairs with cushions which look far better – maybe those would work?
and come to think of It no cookie jar in my house, I guess I’ll have to buy or make one
good idea!
Yogurt ranch dressing sounds delicious!
