So this is totally my kind of thing — I’m doing the Virtual Games – Track Start 2012.
This virtual event is being hosted by Run with Jess and will include the following events to be completed between August 3-12, 2012!
The 8 Virtual Olympic Events…
** You do not have to run the full marathon in one shot. Break it up into segments and challenge yourself to complete a total of 26.2 miles during the 10-dayVirtual Games (average of 2.62 miles each day). And yes, the challenge of this virtual event is to run or walk all eight events. Be A Champion!
You can find all the details on her blog post about it here. My only fear is that I’ll get a little crazy and try for the marathon all at once, cold turkey!
Last night…
We had company! Hooray!! I made some Peach Pie Bars. I love to bake, especially when I have someone other than Kevin to force feed it too.
Of course, I had to send a plate of dessert home with my friend, Jake when he left!
Jake and I taught at the same school for three years when I lived in the Dominican Republic, and it’s always so good to see him. I’m so lucky that he has family in Parker so he’s generally around every summer/holiday! I have so many good memories with him in the DR!! Plus last night he saved our house from burning down. Somebody isn’t used to gas stoves any more and put a pot holder a little too close to the burner. Jake to the rescue!!!
Jake, by the way, IS SINGLE!!!!!!! Do you like the way I set that up by telling the hero Jake story? Lol.
Teacher, artist, bilingual, motorcycle owner, loves to travel, not a runner (I know some people would consider that a plus – lol), lives in the beautiful Dominican Republic. If you’re interested, email me. Lol. I’m not joking!! He’s a young 30-something! He knows me so I don’t think he put it past me to advertise him in my blog. But I don’t think he reads it —too much running and girly stuff.
Another highlight of our evening was that we got to use our Butter Boy!!! Kevin’s Aunt Julie is from Iowa (haha) and gave us one after I was so fascinated by it at dinner one night. I’m from the Midwest, but we never had one of these beauties in our house! Kevin is now asking for more corn-on-the-cob accessories like trays and those little pick things. Hilarious.
Guess who was annoying the whole time Jake was here?
Boyd Jose!! I thought he was learning better manners around people after spending a week with my family, but no such luck!
Have you ever tried a virtual race or event? This will be my first. Fun!!
Do you have any corn-on-the cob accessories? Seriously!

We totally have Butter Boy’s girlfriend Butter Girl. Or at least we did. We may have tossed it. Did you notice that a stick of butter doesn’t really fit in there very well?!
oh my gosh you are so funny. little matchmaker you.
Boyd looks awesome in that pic. (So do you) hehe
oh wow, a full marathon in one go, with no training? sounds a little miserable but exciting at the same time! have you ever run a longer race- a half marathon maybe?
I love virtual races! They give me more motivation to try and run fast, not my normal slog.
Too bad Jake doesn’t live in Vegas..my sister is single and I am always trying to be matchmaker.
Those peach pie bars look phenomenal, by the way!
Best corn on the cob accessory: the container that holds a stick of butter, where you can apply pressing to one end of the stick, and the butter comes out the other end . . . but it’s shaped to curve perfectly to the curve of the corn. I don’t know what they’re called, but my grandparents and parents had one. No trying to keep the melty butter on the cob–you know, it always slides off–as you smear it with a knife.
what a cool virtual race idea!
