Book, Boykin, & Bacon

Happy Monday!!!

So I’m  total nerd. I was so excited to get up this morning because I have a new book to read. Yesterday I was invited to join a women’s book club/study at the church in our neighborhood. They had extra books on hand so I’m jumping right in! The book is Because He Loves Me by Elyse M. Fitzpatrick.

FROM THE INTRODUCTION:

I believe that most Christians think fondly of Jesus, are sincerely grateful for salvation and remember his name as a tagline when they pray, but don’t see his work and life as something to contemplate every moment of every day… What I’ll be asking you to consider throughout this book may be summarized in one simple question: In your pursuit of godliness, have you left Jesus behind?

Intriguing, right? I’m beginning with chapters 5-6 because that’s where they are, but I’ll definitely be going back to the first few chapters later on.

After reading my book over coffee, I took this little clown for a walk.

I’ll be the first to admit that he doesn’t get a lot of regular exercise. Why? He doesn’t like. And neither do we. This is him after two miles. He was DYING!! I mean I seriously thought I might have to carry him home at one point. Can you imagine? And, of course, at that point he’s extremely slobbery. He was hot so he was trying with all of his might to get on the grass. I have rules about that while other parents in the family do not so I can understand why he’s a mite confused. Lol. Plus there are some people in our neighborhood with dog hater signs so I try to be really careful. Okay, really they just have sarcastic signs about cleaning up after you dog, but it’s my personal opinion that a) they’re not helpful, and b) they make your yard uglier than the dogs would.

So I imagine Boyd is out commission for the rest of the week.

He wanted no part in venturing out of the a/c even when I went outdoors to take a picture of something. Pansy!

He did, however, want to stand right underneath my feet while I was cooking up a storm this afternoon!!!

Understandably so, since his efforts were rewarded with bacon!!

He’s a wily one!

So I’ve been really bad about making myself lunch now that I’m home alone during that time. I never seem to get around to it, and when I do I don’t really want to make anything. I’ve been eating Alexia sweet potato fries almost every day. Of course, I love them, but I need to see a little more rainbow on my plate! And that sandwich isn’t exactly a nutritional gold mine either, although I do use all the “healthier type” ingredients 2% milk cheese, Earth Balance, etc. We just need to stop eating so much so we have leftovers! :)

I’m off to research for my WOD of the night. Kevin has been teasing me relentlessly about how long this takes me!! Haha. I have to check all my favorite sites & YouTube channels for ideas. Then, I have to determine what equipment I have available, how busy the gym will be, etc. Eventually, I write it all down, but it definitely takes me a while.

What have you been reading lately? I also found my Calvin & Hobbes stash when I was unpacking the other day!

My pup is the same way with walks/distance. She’ll run for like, 1.3 miles… After that, she walks soooo slooooow and eventually stops. I learned after a couple 3 mile runs to just leave her at home. She and Boyd would be good sit at home friends!

  2. The Boyd/Bacon pic is so cute!
Our dogs can make it about 5-6 miles – then they sleep for a day. Tired dogs are well-behaved dogs!!!

  3. boyd is such a little weirdo!! haha so cute!
omg i used to love calvin and hobbs!! i had a ton when i was younger. right now i am not reading anything but am about to jump back into my jennifer lancaster books!

  4. I couldn’t agree more about those obnoxious dog hater signs. The guy directly across the street from us has one so each time we’re on a walk, I veer out into the road in front of his house & loudly state to Fielder, “We can’t walk on his sidewalk. He has no soul & hates dogs.” Someday I really hope he hears me!

  5. Boyd is so adorable!
Our book club just starting 50 shades of grey. Not sure what to think about it at this point..I am about 100 pages in.

  6. I am still into the 50 Shades trilogy- I just have the last book left to read! I might start reading Gone Girl next- I have heard great things about it!

  7. I just go to your DIY WOD page for inspiration. Takes about 4 minutes. Thanks for doing all the work for me! :)

That picture of Boyd with the bacon is pretty amazing. It could probably win a photo contest or something! Daisy is the same way on walks. I usually have to carry her part of the time so she can regain her strength! :)

  9. I know that I would not be as patient as Boyd if you put some bacon on my nose! He is too cute! :)

  10. Kara says:

Be careful, a dog’s little feet pads can burn on the concrete when it’s really hot! Maybe that’s why he wanted to get on the grass? Just throwing that out there :) He’s so cute!

I just got into the Hunger Games and thinking it will live up to the hype!

  12. Aw love the way that Boyd is laying on the ground with all 4′s spread out! My cat does that pose too, it’s pretty hilarious.

I did a great WOD on Friday – 7 rounds for time with medicine ball: 7 deadlift, 7 cleans, 7 thrusters. It doesn’t sound hard with a medicine ball but I couldn’t walk yesterday! It was a good one!
