Denver Date Night: Trattoria Stella

We may be too lazy to ever leave the Highlands area again on Date Night! I was tempted to go to Billy’s Inn again for Nacho Thursdays, but I overheard someone at the gym talking about this place so I decided we should check it out.

Tratorria Stella (Highlands). Adorable, right? I was immediately apprehensive when I spotted it because I am super impatient and hate waiting at restaurants. So grown up. The patio was really full, but there were a few tables available inside.

I saw this appetizer online, and I had to try it.

Baked Brie – brie cheese topped with roasted garlic & rosemary served warm with fresh bread & fruit.

So fun and totally different than the nachos and fries we tend to order when we eat out! :)

Since I knew I was going to be eating the bread, I decided to go with a salad for my main course. I ordered the 32nd Street Salad with chicken, goat cheese, dried cherries, and roasted pecans. I’m not very good at finishing salads, but I ate every bite of this one. It was delicious.

I almost got the wrong dish. Apparently they have a pasta called 32nd Street as well and they mixed it up! The pasta is green and it comes with shrimp. I was really confused when they gave me the plate, but they called it the 32nd so I was thinking I ordered the wrong thing? And sweet Kevin was trying to convince me that the shrimp was chicken! Ha!! Not falling for that. Luckily the waiter swooped in and righted things when he saw me looking bewildered. I hate all things fishy!!! It reminded me of my best roommate ever, Megan, because the first time I went to dinner with her something similar happened. I was still new at reading menus in Spanish and somehow ended up with a dish that had seafood. I was about to cry so she changed meals with me. Haha. That’s her second memory of me. We’ll talk about the first  some other day… Maybe she will want to do a guest post on it.

Earlier…

I finally managed wear out Pippa Cordelia on a run.

Oops! We still had a half mile to go from home when she did the Boyd Plop down into the grass in the shade. I think she just got hot today. We were actually going really slow for part of the time because I was talking to my mom on the phone. I love the walk & talk!!!

Of course, I thought she was the cutest thing when she plopped in the grass. You know I’d be screaming bloody murder if the Boykin did it. Haha. So I had to stop and take pictures of her.

And drop my keys in the grass.

That was a close one guys. I got about a block before I noticed there was nothing annoyingly digging into my right hand. I went back to look for them, but I am blind. But then we saw something shiny. Whew! We were about to be locked outside all day. No way Boyd was going to let us back in!! Even if he could.

Today’s WOD: Kettlebell version of Men’s Health Spartacus Workout!

I’m super eco-friendly and recycle envelopes.

I kept track of my reps in my 15 second breaks so I can try to beat them next time. I used 20lb kettlebells except for on the renegade rows. I ended up using 10lb dumbbells. The 20lb kettlebells aren’t big enough to balance easily on and kept wobbling over! I wanted to quit after 2 rounds, but I stuck it out for 3!!! And went straight home to spend some quality time with my new Macbook!

Tragically, I was out of sweet potato fries so I stole some of Kevin’s.

Not nearly as good. I also had half a turkey bacon & egg sandwich. Looking at this picture, I feel very convicted about my salt habit. I didn’t mean to put that much on – really!!  In my defense, we don’t have a normal salt shaker. Just a giant container so it sort of still pours out. Still, I know I love salt and I need to cool it a little bit.

Distract yourself from my salt problem by looking at Kevin’s leg:

Ouch. He had a little mini wipeout at a stoplight. Pobrecito!

Have you ever wiped out? On a bike or otherwise. I had one bad bike wipeout in like junior high on a bike that we then named “the purple devil.” A bad wipeout while snow tubing down an icy hill in Minnesota ripped a layer of skin off my face (and you wonder why I don’t ski!). And quite a few times running on uneven sidewalks.

Have you ever tragically lost your keys? Oddly enough – no! Probably because Kevin is always responsible for them when we’re together. And I grew up in Wabasha… so not many things there were locked.

  3. Looks like a really cute restaurant.
I wiped out biking in Chicago – like, in traffic wipe out. But thankfully the car who tapped me (it wasn’t moving fast) pushed me onto the sidewalk and out of traffic!

I LOVE baked brie! Waayyy better than nachos! Glad you guys were more adventurous and ventured out ;) . Tim and I realized that we go to the same places over and over again, so we decided to make a conscious effort to check out diff places each week. So far we love it!
Puhaha! Can’t believe Kevin tried to trick you into believing what you had in front of you was chicken! How? what?
Wow..I’m soo glad you found your keys…It has never happened to me and I pray that it’ll stay that way!

  8. Tratorria Stella looks really cute!
My friend & I crashed into each other on our bikes when I was about 9. I have a Nike Swoosh-shaped scar on my right shin from it.
While I’ve never lost my keys, the thieves stole them & I’m still without. I didn’t drive my car for almost 2 months. I’m driving it now but I feel so old school without my key fob to lock & unlock my doors!

Joey wiped out really bad the day before kindergarten. He was weaving back and forth at high speed and lost control. Luckily he was wearing his helmet. His entire one side of his face was covered in road rash and he had a huge fat lip. Some pic-nicers saw it happen and came running with ice packs to help. Of course the teacher took pictures of all the kids the first day of school. It is memorialized in a Mother’s Day project they made at school. Remind me to show you next time you make an appearance at our house. Josh and I were convinced we were going to get a social services call on that one.

  10. Yikes! I hope Kevin’s okay. Rub some tea tree oil on those scratches!

“No way Boyd was going to let us back in!! Even if he could.”

    Haha!!

  11. Ouch! I hate when I lose my keys, you are lucky to have remembered that!

  12. Lisa says:

I went head over handle bars carrying a basketball, applied too much break, and have a scar in my upper thigh from the gear shifter to prove it. It was hilarious….I remember “seeing” it happen and just laughed through the flip. Glad I didn’t knock myself out! Haha! Nice leg, Kev!

  13. i have taken a tumble or two on my bike before, but nothing as bad as that! and also face planted a few times while running. oops.

  14. I loose my keys on a daily basis and my phone! It’s always one of the two I’m looking for! That restaurant looks fantastic! Something about restaurant salads always taste better!

  15. Kathy says:

Wipe out? No, but that’s probably b/c I am too much of a freak to try something where I MAY wipe out.. ;-)

Cute polka dot envelope…..who wouldn’t recycle that? It just makes me happy looking at it….

  16. I wiped out one of the first times I used clipless pedals on my road bike. it was sooooo embarrassing. And it hurt! I’m sure I looked like a total dork! lol. Happy weekend!
