Laborious Weekend & The Reluctant Crafter

This weekend I did two super weird things:

  1. I missed a day of blogging (unfortunately not for relaxation purposes).
  2. I skipped TWO days at the gym (ditt0).

Happily, we got many, many, many thing accomplished in our new house, for my piano studio, and for the PARTAY on Friday night.

Speaking of the party… It seems like I set the date for a weekend where a lot of people are busy (boo!!!) so I am trying to tone down some of my grand plans for a smaller crew. I know you all would come if you could. :)

Anyhow. No grand reveal of our house progress tonight. I like to keep you in suspense. But you can see the little projects I already posted on Instagram. Such a giver.

Embroidery hoop + ric-rac + twine + mini clothespins all recycled from the wedding. Kevin allowed me to use an x-acto knife for the first time. It was tricky!!! By the way, that’s the Clementine Sketch font. I love it, but it’s a huge pain for little projects like this.

Project #2:

Oooops. I ran out of washi. Can you tell what this was going to be???

The good thing about washi tape?

You can rearrange it!! Lovely eighth notes. I’ll admit that I totally didn’t mean for them to be staggered like that. But let’s pretend I did. I’m out of tape, but I’ll probably add a treble clef and some other little gems at a later date. Washi tape cross stitch inspiration came from here — she actually planned and it executed it carefully.

Whew. Both of those projects took me ridiculous amounts of time. I have to call Kevin in to straighten things and clean up my little disasters. He has a much steadier hand and NORMAL THUMBS!! (you can see mine here — but you’ll have to see a bloody toe first!). They look even weirder at a closer proximity. And yes, everyone who has ever done my nails has commented on them. Plus quite a few piano teachers and even competition judges! So I get a free pass at not being very crafty since they scarred me for life, right? :)

While we working, the dogs got some serious cabin fever.

We ate a lot quick meals like sandwiches. Crusts are for the dogs!!!!

They also did THAT while we were out & about. Yes, they have their own ghetto little bedroom. Remember — that was supposed to be the piano studio, but the piano couldn’t quite fit through the door. Now it’s that barren wasteland you see above complete with Kevin’s feo bachelor chairs full of dog drool.

But it was worth it, because look what I found:

Sweet Potato Fries for $1.99. KING SOOPERS BY CHERRY CREEK!!!! Best deal ever.

We did take a little time to relax… at about 10PM on Sunday night. While I was doing more cutting & pasting. We watching Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

Have you seen it??? I loved it. I’m ashamed to say that now I want to read the book. How disturbing. I’m always super snobby about people who want to read books after they see the movie. Especially if the book has the movie on the cover! Yuck!!!!! Maybe I’ll just read something else by the same author.

This afternoon we had to do some exchanges, and I couldn’t resist dropping by Anthropologie. Just trying to make Brita proud.

Not that I’m willing to admit that winter is coming, but isn’t this cute??? I loved it. But I might need something longer.

And pinker.

We enjoyed our normal Monday grill night out on the front porch and stayed out there quite a while just chatting.

Later, I let Pippa join us.

What a sweetheart! She didn’t even squirm about being on the swing with me. She’s so trusting!! There is no such trust lost between Boyd and me!! Haha. He freaks out if look at him wrong.

Did you labor or relax more this weekend? Labor. Lol.

What does your favorite winter coat look like? Longer is better, right??? I’m really about fashion over function, I won’t lie. But man, I hate being cold!!!

Are you crafty? I’m really more of an idea person, but sometimes I give in.

:) I feel so honored to be mentioned in your blog!! :) OMG, i have to admit this to someone. This weekend, Anthro had a 25% off sale on all merch that was already on sale…and i went to 2 different locations and got some cute stuff!! It feels weird to shop there, cuz im usually a bargain shopper who thinks even thrift store prices can be too expensive, but there’s just somthin about Anthro…everything is so classy and adorable. :) So worth it sometimes…i gots lots of compliments on my skirt today. :)

  6. That movie is in my Netflix queue. My winter coat rule is that they have to cover my backside…

I’m all about practical coats over cute. Like I wouldn’t buy white-it would probably get filthy way too fast for me. You were quite the crafter this weekend.

  8. Glad Kevin still has his bachelor pad chairs— my husband has his in our basement- ugh! ……..Is the movie on Netflix or did you rent it? I’m up for a good movie!!!!!!

Look at you being all crafty! So cute. :)

Umm we don’t really have winter, so I can’t comment on jackets. I love winter coats, but they’re completely unnecessary here!

I saw that movie on the flight home from the US, I really liked it :)

  11. ok I need to try Alexia fries, you keep showing them and I keep wanting them. I am with you, time to do some crafts to decorate my place!

  12. I love all the DIY projects! I am not super creative so I love seeing what everyone else comes up with! I think that jacket is so cute! I don’t have a preference for shorter or longer jackets but I do love white winter coats!

  13. yes i have the perfect wool coat that come mid-thigh that i got from the jcrew outlet last Christmas… it’s boring and black… but then I found a hot pink/orange scarf from the kate spade outlet that was super fun and the deals they were having made it even better! I must watch this movie! I have to ask – did Pippa hate the gentle leader to begin with!? I bought one for Harley thinking it would be the miracle I’ve been looking for – but so far he hates it and he grabs his nose with his front paws while still trying to keep up walking with his back two legs all the while face planting into the sidewalk… we are a spectacle to all who drive by!

Well. Pippa DID hate it at first. But only like twice.. now she associates it with RUNNING. And she loves to run. But I think it’s a personality thing. Boyd totally freaks out about it. But he hasn’t used it as much because he can’t walk/run as much. Plus he has personality flaws. Personally, I’m a little brutal with it. I just keep moving if they’re messing around. They catch on. And all the Denver people think I am cruel to animals. Lol. But I’m not!! RIght now one is in bed and one is on the couch with me. It’s a rough life for them. Haha.

  14. We watched the same movie this weekend–and really liked it, too! :) As far as winter coats go–I prefer ones that come down to my knees. That’s the perfect length–not too long that they get in my way, but long enough that they’re extra warm. I hate getting cold!
