Oh, how we love weekends now that Kevin is done with his MBA!!!! We have no commitments this weekends, and that’s just the way we like it! We woke up early, grabbed some Starbucks and went garage saling!
I’ve been wanting tray tables for breakfast in bed forever and found these for $4 at a garage sale this morning. Can you believe Kevin isn’t even a fan of eating in bed? That’s just crazy. It’s so cozy. And you’re eating! What’s not to love?!
Another mug of coffee for me, English muffin with a little honey, and an egg scramble with some apple gouda sausage!
At the garage sale, I also found a triangle (percussion instrument), brand new silpats, and The Tiger’s Wife. Woohoo!! Kevin has gotten all his rakes and shovels and whatnot at garage sales for less than $10 total so he’s happy too!
Speaking of books:
I just finished up this girly girl book by Emily Giffin. It was one of the used books I happened to pick it up at the Tattered Cover last weekend. It took me like four days to get through it which is a clear sign that it wasn’t that good. A little too much teenage angst for me. Her writing is definitely entertaining, but I preferred the last one I read The Heart of the Matter. And I wouldn’t go so far as to call her the modern day Jane Austen as the back cover so boldly proclaims.
Beside my bed currently: Home Front by Kristin Hannah. I like the story so far, but I’ve only read a few chapters and she’s already employed two ridiculous similes.
Yesterday…
Friday is a day off from piano teaching! And I plan to keep it that way.
Pippa and I enjoyed a nice 4 mile run, and then I broke out my boot camp workout.
It was a deck of cards workout. Each card represented a certain exercise, and they you had to perform the number on the card.
Here’s a similar Deck of Cards workout if you’re interested in trying it! It was definitely the hardest… and my favorite… workout so far. Of course, it drove the dogs crazy because I had to lock them up and they could hear me jumping around in the next room.
This huge salad was part of my lunch! Greens, broccoli slaw, cherub tomatoes, pepper turkey bacon, and spicy pepitas. I’m trying to get myself in salad mode again, but I’m missing some protein!!
I spent some time in the afternoon on professional development AKA practicing piano myself!
Of course, the dogs couldn’t stay away. Either they love Bach or they hate him, and want me to stop playing him. I can’t figure out which!
She’s never quite satisfied with how close she is to me. What a doll!!
First chili of the season.
Enjoyed on the front porch while discussing how much of the studio’s income I will be spending at the J.Crew Factory Store online this weekend. Haha.
When’s the last time you had breakfast in bed? About an hour ago!
What’s your secret chili ingredient? I’m working on my skills so let me in on your secret!
What’s your Saturday routine? It’s always starts with Starbucks and some QT… I know we have it easy right now in that regard so we’re enjoying it!!!

Your life sounds similar to mine. I just finished my MBA, I love slow weekends with garage sale-ing, jogging/walking with my doggy. I guess I just need to add in the breakfast in bed!
I’ve actually never eaten breakfast in bed! I’m super neurotic about the crumbs…but maybe if I had a lovely tray…
Also, you must post a video of yourself playing the piano!!
I made chili this weekend but it turned out to be more soup than chili. Still working on it!
I’m not a huge fan of breakfast in bed either. I get obsessed with the crumb situation. But I still registered for some breakfast in bed trays, so maybe my mind will be swayed if we get them!
Love breakfast in bed, but always argue with my boyfriend about the crumbs!
I looove breakfast in bed, but I can’t remember the last time I did that! Need to change that ASAP!
breakfast in bed?! we’re not allowed food upstairs but in college I would always eat in bed and watch telly. haha you should do a recording of you playing the piano!
Ooh…so jealous! Must be such a marvelous feeling to be done with school! As for me, I worked on my research paper all day…yes, it’s Saturday..but school=no life. I can’t even remember the last time I had bfast in bed! Like never?! And seriously, I LOVE that piano! So much character! Enjoy your weekend!
Can’t remember the last time I had breakfast in bed. If I lie in bed and catch up on emails in the morning, Josh will bring me my coffee, which is so very nice. I hate Bach. I struggle through it. But, give me a Mozart Sonata and I could play all day. My secret ingredient for chili are roasted green chilis.
During the summer, when all 4 kids are home, I have breakfast in bed nearly every morning–I wake up before them and enjoy the quiet until they wake up. If I don’t eat it in my room, I run the risk of waking them too early and there goes my private time!
My secret chili ingredient: salsa verde–tons of flavor for so few calories.
Nope…like hubby I am not a fan of breakfast in bed. If you are in the kitchen making it why not stay in the kitchen and eat it? Once (years ago) hubs and kids surprised me and brought me bkfast in bed for my birthday or Mother’s Day (ha! can’t even remember) needless to say I
ate it but didn’t really enjoy it b/c I kept thinking or crumbs ….maybe I am messy some times…of dirty dishes in my bedroom now that I have to carry back to the kitchen to clean…and other nonsense like that..ha!
Guess we all have our issues.
I’m not a huge fan of breakfast in bed either. I think it has to do with the crumbs?
I still need to read the new Emily Giffin book (just because I’ve read the others) but I’m trying to keep an open mind. I didn’t care for Heart of the Matter as much as her previous ones.
I have to say, the one thing I have learned that I love about weekends now being out of school is that they really are commitment free!
Believe it or not- I’m not the biggest fan of eating in bed either- I don’t find it to be all that comfortable- weird, I know….. I was wanting to read her new book but hadn’t heard too much about what people had thought about it. So, definitly one I should check out from the library rather than buy, huh….. Good to know!
Glad you & Kevin are getting to enjoy your weekends more now!
I put a batch of chili in the slow cooker this morning for a family dinner tonight! I’ll be posting the recipe this week . . . but my secret ingredient is cacao powder.
Have a great weekend!
