last front porch supper + neighbors!

Probably one of our last front porch dinners of the year…

I sent Kevin to the store for dog food, and he came back with everything for a grill night! Side note: did you know Whole Foods is a great place to buy affordable dog food? It’s true! Our last cashier even comment on what a good deal it was. Good to know now that we have two!

I had this guacamole on my burger:

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it before, but it was one of those totally frivolous things I bought while Kevin was out of town on business. And now I want it on hand… at all times. The little packets are almost $1 a piece, but that’s how much you always pay to add avocado at places like Subway and Qdoba. I would know. Haha. It just needs a little salt added.

Just hanging out on the porch. Our dogs have to sit inside behind the screen door. And whine. And cry. I think they’re just afraid they’re missing out on food.

Earlier...

Pippa following her daily routine of yelping and jumping in between me and my computer if I haven’t taken her for a run yet. I had a mid-morning parent meeting so it had to wait! I wish my bed head was more like Pippa’s. Maybe it’d be less noticeable to my morning piano students… :)

THAT is how I inevitably find my floor 5 minutes before I have a parent meeting. That’s just from Boyd sitting there DROOLING for a few minutes.

Another lunch without sweet potato fries.

I was forced to make waffles again with Atkins baking mix. I basically followed this recipe, but swapped out the pumpkin for fresh blueberries!

We are so awesome. We end up being the cool kids at the gym at 8PM almost every Friday night. Since I don’t take students on Fridays, I generally kind of take the day for myself  and put my workout off until Kevin gets home.

HOT!

I did this workout from GPP because it looked fun:

Row/KB, Run/Jack

3 rounds for time:

500m row
25 KB swings 25/35
400m run
25 press Jacks 15/20 ea.

I finished sweaty & proud in 23:28. Those press jacks were no joke! I also managed all of the KB swings unbroken! That’s impressive for me. I have a bad habit of taking little breathers. I was also doing Zuzana breathing if you know what I mean. Good thing there weren’t too many people around!

Kevin also bought me sweet potato chips! They’re the same brand as our beloved Red Hot Blues, and they are awesome. I had to keep putting them away so I’d stop eating them before dinner.

Doesn’t Boyd look like a little old grandmother.

The big news of the day?

OUR NEW NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS ARE FINALLY MOVING IN. They’ve been doing construction on the house since we moved in, and I’ve been dying to have a neighbor. Our spying has revealed that they are a couple around our age…. and guess what? They have a dog! A little one. We think it might be a Westie! Our dogs are going to be bffs too. I think we’re maybe a little too excited about it. We have to tone it down so they don’t think we’re crazy.

Haha. I just busted Kevin eating my leftover birthday frosting out of the can. What a great husband! :) And while he was up, Pippa stole his spot on the couch. Hehehe. That’s what he gets!

Are you friends with your neighbors? We’ve met the neighbors two doors down a few times, and they are sweet and friendly with two kids. On the other side, we have an eccentric older gentleman. Before this, we didn’t really have many neighbors since we were in apartments.

Do you ever hit the gym on Friday nights? It actually really rules since no one is there. Except our gym is below a trendy little restaurant so there’s not a lot of parking!

  1. mmm guac is so goood! I wish my parents had it on hand 24/7. I think hanging out on the porch in the COLD is the best. if only I had a porch I would be out there all the time!

  2. You should totally check out the article RW posted online about the best dogs to run with… Vizsla’s are named several times. We aren’t friends with our neighbors which makes me slightly sad because I’ve always thought that would be so fun!

  3. Your photos are so funny!

I’m totally the cool kid in the gym on Friday nights. I gotta get all RIPPED AND SWOLE UP before my big night of cooking dinner with my husband ;)

  4. Oooh, they sound like awesome neighbors! We’re pretty close with our next door neighbors, and their cute kids are always charming us into buying whatever they’re selling for their latest fundraiser. :)

  5. Oh my – those waffles look so awesome!

My neighbor is the best neighbor ever! And best baby sitter. And a great friend. And we go to the same church. ;) but she can’t take the place of a SIL! I’m glad you’re getting new neighbors and I hope they’re cool like you! Maybe they’re gym freaks too?!?!

  7. YAY for new neighbors! Our neighbors are some of our besties! They are a couple around our age with FOUR kids! Absolutely love them! :)

  8. I usually take a rest day on Fridays since it just “feel right.” lol I have gone to the gym on a Friday before though, and it’s always empty!

  9. I normally hate going to the gym on Friday nights because it’s always SO packed (ironically enough)! The few times I have gone, I always say I need to do it more often- gets me so pumped for the night ahead!

That picture of Boyd is priceless! How exciting about your neighbors! It will nice for the dogs and for you to have company close by! So sad that it is getting towards the end of grilling nights! I’m still clinging onto the last bits of summer I can get!

  11. gosh I could live off of sweet potato chips, so good.

yes…we are friendly with all of our neighbors…its nice to feel comfortable with them but, I don’t need to be “besties” with them..then they may know too much and be too close and run in the same circles as our kids and it can become weird. (to me…just my opinion but I am a little of an introvert at times so typical maybe?)

and yes, Boyd does look like a grandma…Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma dressed up to be exact…ha!

  13. i wish i was friends with my neighbors! dc is so transient that i’ve never made friends with any of my neighbors or vice-versa. looks like the piano biz is rocking for you! awesome!
