I’ve taken a brief hiatus from my waffle kick to make some different variations of gnocchi.
However, I will say that I have ZERO patience with fashioning the gnocchis in any sort of uniform shapes.
I used this recipe from Closet Cooking, and did some sautéing on the side. Turkey bacon + kale + apples & cinnamon in a tablespoon of coconut oil.
Today’s WOD:
20 Minutes AMRAP:
- 20 kettlebell swings (30lbs)
- 20 kb sumo dead lift high pulls (30lbs)
- 20 one arm kb clean & presses (25lbs)
I made it through 4 rounds, minus a few clean & presses.
Now, on to the “perks of cold weather.”
Well, it’s no secret that I hate on winter. Mostly because it’s so stinking cold. So I’ve been trying to think of some of the positives. The key word is definitely “trying.” I know it would help if I took up a winter sport. But that’s not going to happen. They’re all too dangerous. Haha. Except maybe snowshoeing. Did you know Pippa could snowshoe!?!?
Anyways, I thought of one today!! While it takes me FOREVER to get out the door in cold weather (extra clothes have to be found!!), we do run faster right away in order to warm up. Nice weather: our first mile is usually 10 minutes. In colder weather, we knock that down to 8:30 right away!!!
Maybe some non-black winter running gear would cheer us up a little?!! I think Pippa is going to need a little vest soon. We saw a puppy this morning with a vest, and I’m pretty sure she was jealous!
We ran 3.03 in 25:50. Not really fast, but not checking-my-Instagram-feed pace either. I ran another 2.5 of intervals at the gym later.
Another mini perk? Winter running jackets have POCKETS for things like jangly keys and droppable iPhones.
One other perk I thought of this weekend?
If you go to Panera before you go shopping, your drinks stay cold while you are in the mall!!!!
Isn’t this a good look on the Boykin? He actually got a little trim tonight! His curly little ears get matted. Kevin occasionally has to put him in a headlock and cut out some of the dreads. Probably from scraps I threw to him and he never realized were on his ears!!
What are your perks of colder weather? There can’t be many more… Lol. And don’t tell me that you get to have pumpkin, peppermint, gingerbread, turkey, etc. YOU CAN HAVE THOSE IN WARM WEATHER TOO!!

perks of cold weather … wearing pretty clothes. sitting outside with a good book and not breaking a sweat. ahh cannot wait for the freeze! ha
I’ve never made homemade gnocchi before. Sounds wonderful!
Wearing cozy fleece all winter!
We have vests from Orvis for our dogs. They have a lot of good accessories for outdoorsy dog. You could get Pippa her very own Barbour jacket – then she’d really be like a British Middleton. http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=25r6
The only perk I can think of is extra snuggle time on the couch with my boys. All bundled up, under blankets, fire place roaring…
Love it when my stuff stays cold in the car
I just mentioned this on my blog today…definitely that bees and other stinging insects die or leave or whatever! And cross country skiing. I super love winter, it is why me and Minnesota get along so well!
I love layering my clothes– but I HATE being cold!
Aw I love Pippa in her little snow shoe gear! I’m going to have to get on this gnocchi kick with you – looks delicious!
I hate cold weather. I have no idea why I live in Wisconsin! I love cozzying up with my dog on the couch though! He never wants to do that when it’s warm!
Mmm that pumpkin ganocchi looks good..never thought of trying that!
I love cold weather…it is were I flourish..hoodies, fireplaces, snow, love it all!
i can’t believe you made your own gnocchi how creative! perks of cold weather are tough for me to think of, not a big winter person, but I do love wearing gloves when I run so that is perk!
Crocheting!!
Also, I don’t really bake during the summer because it makes the house too hot.
Haha! I definitely do not like the cold weather, but at least I get to pull out my cute cool weather clothes. Like all my flannel plaid! Yeah, I am so that girl.
I hate the cold but if I have to pick a perk I would definitely say hot coffee and tea! I miss it in the summer! I do love winter fashion too!
Cold weather brings out family dinner times …crazy huh? I guess summer BBQ’s scream “run with your friends and leave mom and dad alone” ha!
We have more warm oven baked meals during the winter and sit down to supper together…love going around the table hearing the kids’ “highs” and “lows” of the day. (While the pumpkin or cinnamon candle is burning in the background..ahhh)
You are totally right about the cold car- when I have to drive an hour and a half to get home- the Greek yogurt & milk have much more of a shot of being good when ingot home! …..and the pockets for holding iPhones too!!!
Hahaha I’m with you about the awfulness of cold weather! Although there is something about cupping around a Starbucks red cup that momentarily makes the FREEZING weather seem okay!
Hahah I’m with you about the awfulness of cold weather! Although there’s something about cupping your hands around a Starbucks red cup that momentarily makes the FREEZING weather seem okay!

… but you can’t have pumpkin spice lattes in the summer! because starbucks won’t make ‘em until the cold hits.
