Jelly Cafe + Vacation Kickoff

Kevin: “Do you think the dogs are wondering why I’m at home on a Friday morning?”

We have been looking forward to this mini vacation forever! August-October was a super busy season for Kevin at work so his department actually had a ban on taking vacation days! Lame. So now that the ban has been lifted, he took today and Monday off!! Hooray, long weekend.

Ever since I saw Melanie’s post on things to do in Denver, I’ve been wanting to check out the Jelly Cafe. Other than a quick Starbucks wrap, Kevin and I have never really gone out for breakfast together. It just doesn’t work for our schedules. And we’re not morning people!! So today was the perfect opportunity!

So far so cute…

We were a little surprised that there was a wait around 9:30AM on a Friday morning, but the place was hopping!! In a good way. Even for old people like us. I loved this map on the wall, but forgot to snap a picture of it. So I borrowed one from my new Instagram friend sjens who was apparently there at the same time as we were! Where’s Sunnyside??? I guess they’re lumping us in with Potter Highland. I’ll let it slide since it’s so pretty.

So let’s start talking about the coffee… I got it right away, and I loved it. It was super strong and totally blissed me out, getting me in vacation mode!!! I ordered the haco biscuits & gravy. Kevin selected the stuffed french toast (ewwwwww), and we both ate every last bite. Loved the atmosphere. Loved the service. Everyone was extremely friendly and very cheerful! It looked like such a fun place to work.

The decor was really fun too, with lots of framed vintage cereal boxes!

I told Kevin we’re going to back every time we’re off work on weekday… so at least once or twice a year! :)

A little bit later…

Packing for the weekend took longer than we expected!! I made sure to pack all my fitmixer goods!

Once we got all our shoes, books, and dogs packed up — we were off!

When Kevin pulled off for a minute to look at directions, looked what I spied.

Yeah, we definitely stopped.

Definitely serendipitous! I found the red & pink heart sweater that sold out online! I was holding out for a better deal, and it sold out!! Kevin thinks they still had it on hand because no one shops in Silverthorne. Haha. The saleslady was especially helpful, and ended up giving us an additional student discount since Kevin’s technical graduation date isn’t until December!! Wooohooo!

There was a nice little path/outdoorsy area so we decided to bring out the dogs and eat our sandwiches there. Aren’t we responsible?? Packing sandwiches! SUPER FRUGAL!

After lunch, we leisurely made our way over to the cabin in Breckenridge where we’ll be staying!

Do you see that SNOW?!?!? It’s freezing. But absolutely gorgeous!! This is already the best vacation ever already!!

The dogs agree! What — like we’d leave home without them! We chose this place because it’s super dog-friendly. That lounge chair in front of the fireplace was practically built for my two little lazies!

Good night! We’ll see how the blogging goes while I’m here. I have the internet (of course!!!), but who knows if I’ll be in the mood to use it. My fingers might be freezing off….

What’s your favorite breakfast place? Jelly Cafe. I’m a believer. And Starbucks.

Do you pack sandwiches when you take road trips? I guess I do, now that I’m 28! I think before I would have chosen to go to McDonald’s!!

Have you ever  taken your pets on vacation? This is our first time…. it’s a little challenging. Prissy Pippa does not adapt quickly to new environments. She also threw up on me a little bit. Totally digusting. A few bites of dog food. I suppose it was fortunate that it was all over my shirt instead of the couch or the carpet in the cabin… YUCK! But I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to leave Pippa in a kennel. She spent enough time there in her first 1.5 years of life!

  2. I LOVE BRECK!!! We go there every time we visit Colorado (and stayed there for 3 nights in July!) And I am so jealous that you stayed in a cabin with your DOGS!!!! Oh man… someday I’ll be able to do that…

We always pack picnics, Hummus with veggies is our favorite component! Our dog goes everywhere, but she is only 13 lbs so it is very easy. Hope you have the best time!!

  12. How can stuffed french toast be “ewwwww”?! ;-)

    Enjoy your mini vacation!

  13. Have fun in Breckenridge! I’m a huge fan of packing meals for car trips. It just doesn’t seem worth stopping for some mediocre fast food. I’d rather save my money for a nicer meal out later, and eat yummy packed food in the car. :)

  14. Woo looks like your weekend away is off to a great start! Although it doesn’t happen often enough, I love going out for breakfast…or at least brunch! One of my favorites is Le Pain Quotidien…nothing like someone else making you eggs!
