Don’t hate on me for saying this, buuuuut I’m not really a fan of Halloween.
I noticed today when I went running that the Halloween decorations are out of control in my neighborhood.
So I took a picture of a tame display, but there are some seriously creepy characters around! I just didn’t want a picture of them! Including some hanging from trees over the sidewalk. Ewwww!!!! I ducked.
And with my poor vision when I’m running without my glasses, I’m not really sure WHAT I saw on someone’s porch today. I just kept running. 3.25 miles with Pippa C!
Kevin thought it was hilarious to come home and find me cooking in heels. He had to take a picture. I was dressed up because I had a piano student!! I take my little business pretty seriously. I do wear jeans occasionally, but it’s usually a dress or a skirt and heels. What can I say – the Dominican moms trained me in right!
Guess what one of the perks of teaching piano is? I could totally wear the same outfit every day of the week. Except I have one parent I see two days in a row, but other than that! Haha. And I do sometimes because I’ll only have it on for an hour or two. I would be wearing lower heels, but I threw out my old ones today on a cleaning spree. They really weren’t presentable!
I’m kind of winging dinners this week because I was trying to save on my grocery budget. I threw this together based on what I had in the fridge. I Googled around about pumpkin quinoa and sort of used this recipe from Fannetastic Food as a guide.
I used:
- 1 cup quinoa cooked in 1.5 cups of water
- 4 pieces turkey bacon
- Half can pumpkin puree (approx — it was leftovers)
- 1 bag spinach & arugula mix – sautéed in 1 tsp coconut oil
- A few tbsp of Fage 0%
- Coriander
- Garlic
It turned out really well. Kevin was definitely a fan, although it was probably the bacon that won him over.
At the gym…
My husband impetuously accepted a challenge to race me up 1,667 feet to the top of Tapei 101.
The winner got to choose dessert for tonight.
Yeah, I won.
I chose no dessert. That was predictable. Lol. It was actually just a ploy to get out of making apple crisp for the fiftieth time this month.
I did .50 miles on the arc trainer while I waited for Kevin to finish, but I couldn’t talk him into a mini WOD tonight.
Today’s Mini WOD:
21-15-9 Reps:
- Sumo Deadlift High Pulls (35 lbs)
- Tactical Lunges (25 lbs)
Finished in just under 5 minutes, rounded up Kevin James, and headed out the door!
Pippa decided she needed a relaxed dinnertime tonight.
Or MAYBE she was just guarding her bowl from this little lurker. I need to start separating them at meal time. They race to finish as fast as they can so they can check on each other dog’s bowl status.
Anyone else not a fan of Halloween decor? Christmas & Thanksgiving decorations are another story! I just don’t like the creepy & the gross. I think some of our neighbors are competing because there are some pretty intense displays! I would seriously be afraid if I was a child. I think they make Pippa nervous.

Halloween is a little bleeeugh for me too. I just like it when I get a night to go out no questions asked. I wished I was that comfortable to wear a dress and heels while cooking. You can spot me in a big tee and shorts barefoot. haha
I understand your Halloween aversion. I basically can take it or leave it, and I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Bring on Thanksgiving and Christmas!
I love Halloween decor! HA I think it’s so fun! I just love Halloween though. Awesome job on the stairmaster!! BUNS OF STEEL! I love your cooking outfit, very classy
Umm I love your blog – first time commenting though I’ve been lurking for a while! I think you convinced me I need a puppy/dog to go on runs with me – it’s getting dark and lonely to do it alone!
I am not a fan of Halloween AT ALL. Don’t like the decorations or dressing up. I always feel like a fuddy duddy b/c everyone is all into it. So I’m glad I’m not alone!
Toby ALWAYS lays down to eat his food too. HA! He is such a lazy pup, cracks us up. I love Pippa’s dog bowl!
I’m not super crazy about Halloween (or most hoidays, really), but I actually love seeing all of the decorations
I have to say the neighborhoods near me have been out of control, running in the dark in the morning it can be quite intimidating. I like halloween when I could go trick or treating, I miss that!
That salad looks good…and I have to say if I found my wife at home cookin gin heals too I would have to snap a picture cause hell has frozen over lol!
I don’t like the gross ones…like bodies hanging from trees which thankfully I have only found on one house while driving around …but I like the general orange lights, pumpkins, scarecrows, etc…
I don’t like all the Christmas hype with every thing BUT Jesus~Mary~Joseph etc….I keep Christmas simple with lights and a wooden snowman which we keep up almost all winter…it needs to be about the Reason for the Season and not all the commercial stuff.
You little stepford wife, you. That’s funny. I’m not into Halloween at all. In fact, I just remembered today that I might need to get a bag of candy for the neighborhood. But, ya, I don’t get it.
Lol! I wanted to bake a pie for our new neighbors, but I felt too much like the mean girl on Desperate Housewives.
I am in love with the heels! I’m not a huge halloween fan too! I love chocolate but that’s about it! Can’t wait for Christmastime though!
On Friday afternoon I saw a guy in a really creepy costume – it was a full nylon body suit and had no face (just white)…hard to explain but really gave me the creeps – even in broad daylight.
I have never been a fan of Halloween either! I don’t really like dressing up in costume and I absolutely HATE being scared!
I’m totally with you on the Halloween thing. I could seriously care less. I’ll participate in the trick or treating just because I have kids. But me dress up? No way. Every year there is a costume contest at work and every year I purposely schedule a client meeting out of the office that day. LOL
That is SMART!!! I love it.
Yay!! I found someone like me! Halloween is my least favorite holiday. I could do without it. I know, I know….I’m such a party pooper, but frankly I’d rather move on to Thanksgiving (my favorite).
Hooray! Thanksgiving is my fave too!! Halloween probably wastes time we could be focusing on that. Lol.
