Just Did It!

Dance class was brutal tonight. Okay, maybe just the anticipation was rough. I was freaking out about the fact that we missed class last week (Kevin was sick). I was relieved when we got there and discovered we had a different instructor tonight AND we were starting a new dance (the waltz) so I wasn’t behind. Just my usual amount of late bloomer behind… Lol. I blush a lot in that class. My face is red the ENTIRE TIME. Someone told me it looked nice with my green jacket. Thank you.

Want to know something I’m better at?

Running.

Pippa and I felt like going the distance today. So we ran around one ugly lake.

And then another ugly lake. Minnesota lakes are so much better. Also, there are 10,000+ of them. (We want the team name “Lakers” back!!!!!!)

They look the same, right? They’re along the same highway.

Then we ran down a street with puppy water bowls. :)

And then Pippa decided to start fake limping. I think she was just embarrassed she couldn’t keep up with me.

We did the first 5.5 at 8:18 pace! Not too shabby! But I’m a super nervous dog mother so we ended up walking the 1.28 miles home. Pippa C. seemed fine to chase squirrels and kittens!!!!

Nothing a little nap couldn’t fix! She apparently thinks she’s allowed in bed anytime she pleases now!

Baked potatoes for dinner! Sweet for me, and red for Kevin James!! I made a little black bean quinoa + Greek yogurt + a little mozz for topping. Those are STUFFED.

Anyways, enough about all that… you’ll never believe what I JUST DID.

I ACTUALLY SIGNED UP FOR A RACE!!!!!! I paid the money. I’m so there. For some reason, I never committed to that trial run. I think I decided it was too expensive — although it’s really not too bad either.

Anyways, I chose the Rock Canyon Half Marathon — It’s on December 1. Lol. I hate running in the cold, but I impulsively thought it would be a good idea. Plus it’s only $35!!

Here’s a quote on the weather from their website:

We have been blessed with great weather 8 out of the last 10 years but be prepared for anything. Pueblo is located in the “banana belt” of Colorado.  When it is snowing all around we tend to remain dry, which is great for runners but bad for lawns. Come prepared for snow and wind then be pleasantly surprised by the great weather we have in December in Pueblo. However, having a run in December is a gamble, we have never cancelled in 25 years and we intend to run this race regardless of the weather.

Haha. Banana belt.

Guess who else is running it?

I’ll give you once clue. He’s sitting right next to me. That’s right!!! I coaxed Kevin into running it with me. We don’t have a game plan yet. I’m more or less prepared to run the distance, but he hasn’t run a whole lot lately. Too much football watching going on during treadmill time!!!! Fun fact: Kevin has run a half marathon before! In 2003 (the year I graduated from high school – haha – he’s so old). He was in college and thought it would be a good idea to do it without training at all. He claims not to remember his time. Does that remind you of anyone? Hahaha. And then Kevin said I think it was like 1 hour, 5 minutes.  Lol.

What should our time goal be? I ran Frosty’s Frozen 10 in 1 hr 18 minutes. I was in better running shape then, but I think I’m in overall better shape now. I’ll think about it. Kevin, you can anticipate at least 5 emails about it at work tomorrow. I should probably start planning our outfits too.

Have you ever run a winter race? What’s the next race you have planned? Actually, we might do a Thanksgiving race or two before then as well. We’ll see how motivated we get to get out of bed on weekend mornings!!!

P.S. My puppies in the morning!!!

  1. ahhh cute that y’all are doing a run together! I’m still scared to do a 5k!! Maybe this upcoming year will be it! Are y’all going to do anything with the dancing? Like maybe get so good y’all enter a contest? ;) hehe

  2. Kara says:

YAY for you and Kevin’s race!! So exciting! That’s so cheap too :)

  3. Lisa says:

Ok. “Lakers” =sports team name. In YOUR blog? (Do you know which sport?). Are you ok? Do you have a fever? Is watching Kevin watch sports rubbing off on you? Why don’t you move back to MN’s prettier 10,000+ lakes since I’m asking so many ridiculous questions anyways??????

  4. Alysha @Shesontherun says:

$35 bucks is a steal. Go you!

  5. Because of our vacation we have missed a couple weeks of dance class too..and my wife is sick so we may miss tonight as well! Oh well I have a feeling it is like riding a bike, once you get back into it you remember the steps!

  6. Jealous, that half marathon sounds like it will be a blast.

  7. Haha! Your Kevin/Paul Ryan story is so funny.

$35 is a great deal! I hope the weather is nice for you.

  8. Congrats on signing up for the half! You will have such a blast running with Kevin!

  9. The race sounds fun! Pueblo does tend to have more moderate weather than other parts of Colorado so Dec. 1st should be fine. I think it’s so cool you guys are learning to waltz! My husband and I took a ballroom dance class right before we got married, and our instructor choreographed a waltz for our first dance as a wedding gift. It was really special.

  10. That’s awesome Kevin’s doing the race with! Sounds like it will be fun! That picture of Pippa is priceless! She looks absolutely wrecked from her run!

Congrats on signing up for the half. I was going to do the heart half this weekend in Loveland, but it’s Saturday morning and I don’t think we can make it down by then. Bummer, because there aren’t too many halves left until next February. Mikaya fakes the limp thing too. Sometimes I am all but dragging her and then I’m like this is stupid, so we walk.

  12. Yum – dinner! Cute puppies and that’s exciting that you & Kevin are both doing the race.

  13. Jade says:

So cool you two signed up for the race…can’t beat that price! Two, Minnesota Lakes are the best :)

  14. Kathy says:

Cool about your race…It’s Colorado, even if it snows it will melt in minutes so you will be good to go. ;-)

  15. Congrats on signing up for the half marathon! Yay! Dinner looked delicious too, btw. My husband and I would do the same thing: regular tater for him, sweet for me. :)

  18. Hey! I stumbled across your blog (read your bio – your wedding dress is GORGEOUS btw!!)
I would love to break out of my shell a little bit and take dance classes, how nice!
