Anticipation Is Overrated

Remember when we opened our Christmas gifts super early?

Yeah, we definitely did the same thing with our Valentine’s gifts. I think this is the first time we’ve ever gotten each other anything for V-Day? I wasn’t that thrilled about the whole thing while we were in a LDR (for what seemed liked FOREVER), but now I’ll take any excuse to celebrate!

Here’s Boyd J., modeling Kevin’s gift to me:

valentines gift kindle paper whiteThat would be the Kindle Paperwhite!! Awwa!!!! Just in time for our vacation. I must confess, I haven’t read anything on it yet because I’ve been in the middle of some good library books! I’ll need to stock up BIG TIME before our trip. I love that he bought me a Kindle — I probably never would have. I’ve been thinking about it forever, and the one hand, I wanted one — but on the other hand, now that we have a house, I kind of want to collect actual physical books! They’re pretty!!

The paperwhite is my fave because I’m not really crazy about tablets – the iPad just sits around when Kevin isn’t home unless I’m using it for something in piano lessons. I just want to read!

Anyhow, I teach until 7:30PM+ so we don’t have any big plans for V-day, except maybe some Chinese. I don’t even like to go out at all on busy restaurant days, but we’re thinking our usual spot won’t be busy. It never is, actually. Haha.

power salad egg sweet potato spinach applegate sausageEver since I had a Panera Power Bowl I’ve been thinking about making them for myself at home. For some reason, a “power bowl” sounds much more appetizing than a “salad.”

I’ve had this twice already this week! I should probably find a way to add a few more vegetables, but it’s already better than my go-to plate of Alexia sweet potato fries!

By the way!

hardboiled eggs muffin

I tried the “baked” hardboiled eggs method! I followed these super complicated (hahaa) directions, and they came out perfectly! I’m so happy!! I guess I found it intimidating to hard boil them the normal way? All the boiling and the timing — it was just too much pressure! I love this method so much! Now I want to get one of those little egg slicers.

polka dot sheer curtains

Another thing I’m selling today (haha) is this set of sheer lace polka dot curtains I bought the other day on Amazon for $12.99! For two! I hate how they sell curtain panels individually. That’s so lame. We had the ugliest green curtains from the previous owners still in the bathroom, and it was time to replace them. The windows are frosted, but since they are pretty big it just seems weird without curtains!

Off to teach some eighth notes!!

Do you have a Kindle or other e-reader? Do you use it a lot? Or just for travel and whatnot?

Are you giving any Valentine’s gifts? I forgot to say that Kevin just got some stuff from J.Crew, including a “springy” green shirt.

P.S. Dogs driving cars!

  1. i make hard boiled eggs all the time – never knew baking was an option! giving that a try with the eggs i just bought to boil.

  2. Awww! I still stick to books.
Yep – little gifts are already wrapped and ready.

You are so darn cute. That power bowl looks yummy!
I still don’t know what to get for Greg for V-day. Guys have it easy- just get us flowers and we’re happy!

  4. You guys sound like us….we don’t really put that much pressure into V-Day either! I am still stubbornly holding out against an e-reader. I want to hold the actual books :)

  5. I love the colors in that salad, I mean “power bowl”! :D

  6. I have a Kindle and love it! Anthony and I just joined a Bible study and it’s much easier to tote around my Kindle than a big Bible during the day since the group is right after work.

  7. I have the kindle fire which is a tablet. if your library lets you you can borrow library books through the kindle too! :) just ask your library!

  8. Cinnamon says:

that egg trick is the bomb! I am totally doing it!

  9. Heidi Nicole says:

I’m convinced if I bake an egg to “hard boil” it then they will explode all over the place. I have a cute little egg timer thing that goes in the water with the eggs and changes colors as the eggs boil. I love it!

I love my kindle! Mines like yours. Super easy to use and my family does have an iPad that we all use sometimes but it’s not for much more than surfing tr web and games haha :)

This is my first time posting on your blog even though I have been reading it forever! YAY! Your blog is one of my favorites and is a daily read for me. I adore your relationship with Kevin and your pups are just the cutest!…. anyways, I recently purchased a Nook and I am obsessed with it! I have read 24 books in the months that I have had it HAHA I love increasing the font size and reading while on the elliptical… I could exercise for hours when I do this! It also is so easy to travel with… once you get going on the kindle you will love it! My mom has one and she swore she would never give up real books and has been sold for months now

  12. gah I want a nook so bad, i feel like it would make me read more. I haven’t tried cooking eggs that way but I should!!

  13. I have a Nook and, I’m not going lie, I don’t use it very often; however, it is always dead – this could be my problem ;) Enjoy your Kindle – and don’t forget to charge it!

My Mom got me a Kindle when it first came out. I was sick and had many different doctor’s appointments. I loved it because I could read in the office without touching the germy magazines and it was lighter than a book. I switch back and forth between my kindle, ipad and regular books. I read so much that I can’t afford Kindle books all the time. I love the feel of a real book too. When I travel, the ipad can be better because it has internet too. Ugh, all these choices!

I know what you mean — I’m always looking at Kindle books, and being like — that’s so expensive when I could get it at the library. Although I guess the library has Kindle books too.

  15. Jade says:

I agree with you, it is dumb that they sell curtains in 1. Or should I say curtain??

  16. I’ve seen the baking of eggs before, but never tried it! So glad to know it works–now I’ll give it a whirl. And, yes, “power bowl” does sounds much more exciting and delicious than “salad”. Good call. I haven’t been drawn to reading on an electronic device yet. There’s something about holding a book and turning the page that I prefer. I don’t know.

Baked hard boiled eggs?? Those look too easy not to try! Such a great tip!

  18. Tonia Kreisel says:

Haven’t gotten an e-reader yet. I just love the way library books feel and even smell too much. Plus, I love at the Winona Public Library how in some of the books they have the post-it notes so readers can leave their reviews and ideas. That is just too precious to give up on an e-reader. Plus, I don’t want it to do anything else except give me books to read. So many of them do WAY too much stuff for my taste.

  19. I don’t have a kindle – that’s a GREAT gift to receive!

  20. Nina says:

I would love to have a Kindle Paperwhite, but I would never buy one for myself, too. Not even sure if I would like reading on an e-book reader, but it’s great for traveling.

  21. Awesome pic of your pup up there…oh and I will be giving a few surprise gifts this year to my wifey…I am excited!
