Friday morning we woke up at 4:30AM, snuggled the puppies, and headed off to the airport! One of our best trips ever – no traffic, no checking luggage, and we had just enough time to grab some coffee before our flight started boarding.
Best of all, Kevin and I got a whole row to ourselves! And we weren’t even originally seated together! Woohoo!! Yeah, Kevin did read a little, but he thanked me for getting him a book with pictures!
When we touched down at MSP, I typed “paleo” into my Yelp app and came up with Brasa!
It was incredible! Such a good choice!! I ordered lime & garlic pulled pork, plantains, and yuca! Very Dominican of me. It wasn’t totally OPENutrition approved because those are some pretty starchy vegetable choices, but I went with it since I had a half marathon coming up! Delicious. And not that far away from the airport! It was in such a cute neighborhood with little J.Crew, Lulu, and Anthro stores…. but I went straight home to me little sis for her 13th birthday!!!
We hung out with the fam, just catching up for a few hours, and then it was time for the run!! The Dumfries Loop is a favorite course of my dad’s, and he has run it many times over the years. He definitely knows where every little hill and bend in the road is so it was good to have him there coaching me every step of the way!
I was really nervous because I had only done a few relatively long runs in the last few months since I’m pretty busy with CrossFit (in case you haven’t noticed).
We ran out the front door of the house where I grew up and started ticking off the miles!
I’d run up the first significant hill once before so that was familiar territory, but once we got beyond that, I had no clue. But I wa was feeling pretty great! I’m thankful that I continued to feel really good throughout the entire course. I was wearing my sister’s Garmin watch, but it was only set to show total time + total mileage. I didn’t know my pace as I was going along, and we just went with it!
I didn’t grow up in the country, but apparently you can get there pretty fast! Even on foot!
We hit a really tough, long hilly mile from 9-10. I turned on a little Matt Redman and kept cracking. It was at that point my dad told me that I was a beast! Yes!!!!
This hottie showed up at the end of that hill with some water.
I couldn’t believe it, but we finished in under two hours!! Here, I thought I was going to be suffering and walking on some of the hills. I guess I was being pessimistic and had worked the course up to be even worse in my mind.
Our splits our pretty scattered due to all the hills, but we ran the second half significantly faster!!!
Do you see those hills???? Crazy. It was such a fun course to run with my dad!!! I’m so happy it turned out so well. The funny part is that my friend, Amy drove by us while we were running on the highway. Hilarious!!!
In case you ever want to run it!
Recovery plate inhaled as quickly as possible!
We made this brownie bottom ice cream cake for Hannah’s birthday, and Kevin decided that after THAT run — we should have a piece. Not that he ran it, lol, but he spectated! The sad part was that I couldn’t hack it! It was making me sick to my stomach and Kevin got to eat most of mine! He wasn’t too disappointed about that. I think the heavy whipping cream layer on top was making me feel sick after that run. I hope I haven’t lost my cake edge that badly! I have a lot of cupcakes left to eat this year!!
What’s your favorite course EVER to run?
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend! :)
