Mobility Jeopardy! + The Grown-Up Happy Meal

Pippa Cordelia had to pay the price for stealing my lacrosse ball while I was trying to mobilize and watch Jeopardy!

That sneaky girl!!! She just played dead while I was putting the socks on her. You know Boyd Bear would have bitten my arm off — he actually hates having his paws touched (but he does like to mobilize).

I can’t believe I didn’t realize until this week that I can watch Jeopardy! on our tv. Duhhhhhhh.


Yeah, I have NO CLUE how to use this. They should make an app for that… That I would be able to figure out! I actually missed watching it yesterday (and had a near meltdown -haha)  because I couldn’t figure out how to turn on our cable. We’ve never had cable before, and we just have it temporarily because our internet provider is giving it to us for free. I obviously haven’t used it! I got it figured out today and did some mobility while I watched.

During the commercial breaks I did sloooooow air squats, planks, and sit-ups. The dogs pestered me whenever I was on the floor though. They always do. That’s why I can never practice handstands at home — it’s dangerous unless I have them locked up. And they’re spoiled and don’t like to be locked up.

I didn’t do so well in Jeopardy! today, but I’ll get it back. They had an Apps category that was super easy (INSTAGRAM!!!), and I did surprisingly well in nonpotent potables. And Johnny Tremain popped up in a WWII categoryHave you read it??

Why did I need so much mobilizing?! Well, let me tell you!

Yesterday’s wod:

3 curtis p (hang squat clean, lunge, lunge push-press)
4 ring dips

Curtis P’s are fun but hard!!! I was planning to do 85lbs, but my coach suggested that I try 95. We decided I would back it down mid-wod if need be. I ended up doing 4 rounds + 2 reps at 95. Dang, that was heavy. I thought the push press was going to be the hardest element but it was actually the hang squat clean. I’m feeling it today. I finished the wod in what felt like slow motion — 15:37.

I finished in 13:59. It was harder than it looked on the board!!!!!!!!!

I have to admit what I had for dinner tonight — the best Grown-Up Happy Meal ever:

So good. I know they’re both a little processed and whatnot, but the good news is that I looked them both up on Fooducate, and they earned solid A & B grades!! Woohooo!!!! Yummmmm….. So good. I’m a reformed McNugget-aholic so it’s not a big shock that I loved this dinner!! I’ll try to eat some more vegetables next time.

Do you ever wear knee socks? They’re good for not scraping your poor little shins but I also think they just feel really good on my muscles. Not quite compression socks, but along that line.

Broccoli Slaw + Pyramid Workout

Finally! Some vegetables in our lives! I did a little too much “taste testing” yesterday while baking for co-workers so I was really in the mood for something healthy!

Broccoli Slaw (via Cooking Light)


  • 6 cups thinly sliced napa (Chinese) cabbage  —> Or be lazy and use a prepackaged mix!
  • 1 cup diagonally sliced celery
  • 1 cup finely chopped broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup grated carrot (1 medium)
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 1/4 cup unsalted sunflower seed kernels  <—- skipped!
  • 1 (5-ounce) can whole water chestnuts, drained and chopped
  • Dressing:
  • 1/4 cup lower-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper —-> OR MORE!
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • Remaining ingredients:
  • 1 cup fresh orange sections
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted
  • 1 (3-ounce) package ramen noodles, crumbled and toasted (discard seasoning packet)


  1.  To prepare slaw, combine the first 7 ingredients in a large bowl; toss well to combine.
  2. To prepare dressing, combine soy sauce and next 6 ingredients (through garlic) in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk. Gradually add oil to soy sauce mixture, stirring constantly with a whisk. Drizzle dressing over slaw, tossing gently to coat. Top slaw with oranges, almonds, and noodles.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like eating salad in the winter? I’m in so much more of a SOUP mood. But the salad was a winner anyways. Note: Duh, if you put the leftovers in the fridge, the noodles are going to get gross & soggy. I ended up throwing them away. Lame.

Workout: The Pyramid

Set 1: steady pace 1 minute each @ 4, 5 and 6 percent incline
2-3 minutes recovery @ flat jog

Set 2: steady pace 1 minute each @ 5, 6 and 7 percent incline
2-3 minutes recovery @ flat jog

Set 3: steady pace 1 minute each @ 6, 7 and 8 percent incline
2-3 minutes recovery @ flat jog

Set 4: steady pace 1 minute each @ 7, 6 and 5 percent incline
2-3 minutes recovery @ flat jog

Set 5: steady pace 1 minute each @ 6, 5 and 4 percent incline
2-3 minutes recovery @ flat jog

I added a little 5 minute warm-up and about 10 minutes at the end to round out my workout. Those incline intervals were NO JOKE!!

5.61 miles in 45 minutes. That’s a lousy 8:01 pace. Had I KNOWN that was an 8:01 pace, I would’ve definitely run a few more minute to bring it down to 8 or below. Lol. I wouldn’t have cared if it was 8:15 or something, but since I was so stinking close!

While running, I was watching my fave – Jeopardy! And imagine my delight, there was a category on Exercise & Fitness.

So easy. Little nerds!!! It pays to hit the gym once in a while. You would definitely know what a kettlebell is. Chenda & I are disappointed in you!!!

Hehehe. Look what I did to Boyd tonight!!!!! I was baking up the rest of the Skinny Gingerbread Cookie dough, and I couldn’t resist powdering Boyd’s nose. The best part? HE HAD NO CLUE!!! So sweet and innocent.

Still clueless. Poor thing. All he wanted was a little sample of cookie dough!!!

I’ve also been taunting him with his Christmas gift. It makes a noise so I squeeze it and he comes running. He can never figure out what it is. Now it’s all wrapped and under the tree. Wooohoo!! Tomorrow night is mini Kreisel family gift night!

Dinner was a little homemade mac ‘n’ cheese. So scrumptious for this carb lover. More specifically — hot carbs!!! After a gorgeous sunny afternoon yesterday, the weather today has been awful, snowy, and foggy!

Something serious…

Maybe you don’t all know it, but my older brother is a police officer (and I couldn’t be prouder of him). He lives and works back with alllll the rest of all our family in Minnesota. I guess that explains why this news story touches my heart so much. (Here’s an article from our local newspaper on the story).

Today there was a domestic incident in Lake City that ended with the responding police officer being shot in the head. I don’t believe the full story is out yet, but from what I’ve read, the woman in the domestic incident was able to run away prior to the shooting. The police officer is in the hospital in critical condition, but is responsive. This is the latest update I’ve seen on the story. The officer is 32, married with 3 school-aged kids. I don’t know him personally, but my brother is obviously very connected with all the police officers in our small Southeastern Minnesota area so it hits extremely close to home for us.

It’s just heavy on my heart, and I wanted to share and ask for prayer over the situation, especially for the officer and his family.

Healthy Lasagna Soup & Rage Over The Last Bosu

I seriously can’t stop with the soups & chilis!

Look at this little gem.

This recipe was inspired by Brenda @ A Farm Girl’s Dabbles, but as usual, I made quite a few modifications and made it my own.

First, I used Jenni-o Ground Turkey.

I love this stuff. Why? Because I don’t have to touch raw meat. I can just put it in the pan. It’s wonderful really. And yes, I start dinner at 7:28. I’m the worst!!!


  • 1 package Jenni-O Italian Seasoned Ground Turkey cooked with one onion, 1/2 green pepper, and some fresh spinach ( just for fun!)
  • Whole wheat lasagna noodles, boiled
  • Fat Free Low Sodium Chicken Broth
  • Canned Tomatoes
  • Ragu No Sugar Added Tomato & Basil Sauce

Topping: Low-fat cottage cheese mixed with part-skim mozzarella.

I made too many noodles. So today we had soup. Tomorrow it will be like…. awkward spaghetti.

Something beautiful came out of last night’s dinner that I hated. I took the leftover pizza dough, put it in a loaf pan, and made a loaf of bread. That became this morning’s PB2 & jam sandwich and tonight’s cheese panini. So delicious. It was like Panera’s Pick Two. At home. So you don’t have to sit there and dread going out in the freezing cold after you finish your meal. ;)


Kevin had an unexpected meeting come up at work so he emailed me to meet him early for lunch. Since we had zero time, we hit up the cafeteria in my building.

I partook of the baked potato bar/salad bar. I ate that ALL. I loved it with the broccoli. So wonderful.

Kevin James had some kind of lame salad. Look at that face. That’s the face of someone who doesn’t think we should name our twin sons Noel and Emmanuel. Weirdo.

The gym tonight was a little traumatic. I wanted to go to this cool class. Like Chiseled or something like that. It uses bosus, weights, those exercise balls — it looks really cool. We rushed as fast as we could and we got to the gym at 5:31. One lousy minute late. The class was packed and they were out of equipment. Wahhhhh. I was  reallly mad. I know it sounds like overreacting, but I had been sitting at my desk looking forward to this class since 8AM!!!!!!

After I ran a mile, I cooled down and had to apologize to Kevin for my bad attitude. Woops!!!!

I settled in for a run. The bright side is that at least I got to watch Jeopardy!!! I answered a $1000 question that none of the contestants knew. It was a Biblical picture and they asked who the tax collector was. Matthew!! I always dominate the Bible categories, and I’m shocked when crazy genius people struggle with them.

I ended up running 5.57 miles @ 8:18 pace.

I think that if you want to buy this magazine, you should automatically get the senior citizen discount. Even Kardashian gossip couldn’t drag me away from this beauty!! It has some really good ideas that I must Google later!

What would your best Jeopardy! category be? I’d own Classical Music, Composers, Running, and Bible stuff. I was doing really well in the Urban Dictionary category too.

Favorite thing to top a baked potato? I think I’m going to be making these at home someday soon, so I need fresh ideas!!!




Treadmill Jeopardy & Thermostat Wars

Today’s workout: 5.17 miles @ 8:17 pace

I was ECSTATIC when I stumbled across Jeopardy! tonight while doing some treadmill miles. I don’t even think of turning on the tv because it’s always just boring sports and depressing news. I couldn’t believe my EYES when I saw Jeopardy! I’ve never had tv (except in our two temporary apartments), and the Jeopardy! airing time was usually right when Kevin got home from work. Not cool.

I was totally rooting for this girl, and she kicked the nerdy boys’ butts! At the end, I told her,”YOU GO GIRL!!!” She was seriously adorable. I was doing REALLY WELL myself tonight! Bhibha & I BOTH got the Daily Double correct because we are so awesome. I forget the exact question, but the category had something to do with Fashion Designers and the answer was “Stella McCartney.” I think the question had a Beatles reference in it that I didn’t get, but hello, she designs a line of workout clothes for Adidas. It’s not my faves of Nike/Lululemon, but it’s definitely on my doubly on my radar since it’s fitness AND fashion. As for herself, Bhiba (rhymes with diva!) works out five times a week for 45 minutes at a time, she said. “I only allow myself to read fun books while on the elliptical.” (via The News Gazette)

Kevin was running on the treadmill next to me and really loved that I screamed out all the answers (I was wearing headphones) loud enough for the whole gym to hear. MICHAEL KOHRS!! That one was so easy! I could talk about Jeopardy for 20 more minutes, but I’ll let you off the hook for now.

Diet Coke Jenga! Kevin and I were FULL of fun & games today! Yeah. We were at the grocery store again. We can’t seem to get our act together ever since we got back from Minnesota and with Kev Kev being sick. Although he doesn’t want to admit it, HE’S TOTALLY FEELING BETTER. I’m so happy! :)But whenever he doesn’t want to do something, it quickly takes a turn for the worse if you know what I mean.

This advertising totally won me over. I was all like,”THAT’S RIGHT!” Microwaves are for leftovers only. And those broccoli steamer bags. I love those things.

I really did buy those tortillas. But more for Kevin. I like my fajitas naked! :) We even managed to find a perfectly RIPE avocado in the grocery store. Wooohoo! Probably no one has been shopping with this wicked cold snap!

I was cold all day. I turned the heat up to 84 when I got home. :) :) :) Kevin didn’t notice until I confessed an hour later. He. He. He. Our furnace here is not great it warms up more slowly than our housed used to! In a tiny 1-bedroom! As I write this, he’s reading TLC message boards about how people keep their heat set.

That tortilla advertising got me thinking of this advertisement I saw the other night while online shopping:

It’s not the thought that counts?!!?!?!!! Seriously????? I really hated that ad enough not to buy anything from their site. And, Kenneth Cole, maybe THAT’S why you didn’t get a question on Jeopardy! Haha.

How high do you set your heat in the winter? And I don’t want to hear one word from you people who live in nice places without snow!!! We change a lot, but never really below 70. Unless Kevin tries to sneak it when I don’t notice. He actually likes it to be cold when he’s sleeping. That’s just crazy!!

Do you like Jeopardy!?! Obviously. I didn’t even mention how much I love Ken Jennings. I just can’t even mention Jeopardy! without name dropping that little nerd.

Smartypants & Smartphones

I’m moving to the States in a little bit over a month. One of the sweet perks is that I’ll be back in the “real cellphone world.” Here in the DR, we generally all use these lame little prepaid phones.

Yesterday I had been weighs the pros and cons of Androids and cellphones when I came across this quote by a nerdy hottie.

You know what is keeping me from getting an Android phone? Having to say the phrase “Android Market” all the time. It’s a trying-too-hard second-rate version of “App Store.” It screams “latecomer marketplace runner-up!!!” like a store brand Dr. Pepper knockoff name. (You know, “Dr. Thunder” et. al.)

None other than the sweet genius, Ken Jennings. I think he hit the nail right on the head. But this is also coming from the girl who has so bought into advertising that she is convinced that Nike, Coca-Cola, and Visa are infinitely better than their competitors.

So. What phone should I get? I do love Swype texting. How many texts do you think I will send during my first month in the US of A?

P.S. Ken Jennings is definitely one of my biggest celebrity crushes. Right up there with Jackie Chan and Amby Burfoot.
